I don’t eat any cheese so if it was a choice between cheese and a bat I’m probably gonna go hungry as the bat is a major ick factor and I’d rather not get sick from the cheese

It's just like the flu but less lethal, remember that. The 25% mortality scrubbed from TenCent is just fake news just like the theories about it being a biological weapon run amok.
I don´t disagree with you here but the fact that so many cites have been put in lockdown is concerning as hell and indication that the outbreak may be far worse than the PRC is letting on.

People in china don't help others in need because of fear of legal damage(from a broken justice system), they don't speak out what they see because of fear of the intelligence agencies, officials blindly execute orders because of fear of the army, the same officials who let milions starve to death during the Great Leap Forward for fear to appear unpatriotic for reporting agricultural yields below expectations.
For the same reasons we are now suspecting officials to have covered up the first outbreak of this virus, and to be continuing to do so in other chinese regions outside Hubei, for fear of the government reaction on them. Government which further reinforced the fear mechanic by announcing harsher punishment for anyone not following state guidelines.
What happens when there is a new fear bigger than all the others?
Probably not much of a change, so long the reasoning remains fear driven.
That came to mind after seeing this image gallery from a city in central cina (population 10 milions)

The deaths caused by the Spanish flu are an order of magnitude (or several, I haven't checked) greater than that of this virus, and again there were exceptional circumstances that lead to the spread of the Spanish flu and also it was 100 years ago.
I saw that someone tried to argue that last point by saying that, somehow, hygiene is still as bad in developed nations as it was 100 years ago but that is simply untrue. Like I don't know how to tell you this, but 100 years ago the entire concept of a virus was new and sanitation is self-evidently nowhere near comparable to today.
The hysterics over this, I mean really.

Generally people seems to be getting used to it all, the major issue is having little clear idea on how long this all lasts.
Also..
Reuters reports that China’s agriculture ministry has said the highly pathogenic H5N6 strain of avian flu has been found in a poultry farm in southwestern Sichuan province.
This is the first H5N6 avian flu detected from a poultry farm after four cases found in swans this year.
The ministry said on Sunday night 1,840 birds had died in the farm of 2,497. The rest have been culled.
Zero context if it's an issue. Nearly half of pigs were culled last year in China, now them chickens..
