My mom is upset, because the news initially denied there were any cases, but she knew there were because they were treating a person who got it at their work place. I feel sad for all the people traveling to and from China for the Lunar New Year, because this will make travel to and from China more difficult.

It's a good thing I'm on the other side, aka, NJ. To be honest, the Chinese are in trouble but I don't think we'll have to worry too much about this in the United States.

I have a feeling this is going to be similar to the Ebola scare for the US, I think we will get maybe a couple hundred cases, and then successfully quarantine it like we did Ebola.

Edit: while I still thinks it's going to be more of a scare than an epidemic, I do have to acknowledge that should we not be careful, it can get worse because of its ability to travel through the air.

They're screwed both ways, if they lied and it's serious then they've put the whole world at risk, if it's not really that bad they're going to have a very angry city of Wuhan for cancelling Chinese New Year. It'll be interesting to see how the media spins it but the upshot is that over this past year people in China have been strongly questioning the CCP's approach to the truth.

I hope this finally motivates the Chinese people to take back control by hook or by crook. China isn't the problem, their censorship-prone government is.

Some researchers have suggested the illness may have originated in snakes. A study published on Wednesday in the Journal of Medical Virology said genetic analysis suggests snakes are "the most probable wildlife animal reservoir" for the virus, but this would need to be confirmed by other studies. Other researchers have questioned the claim.

So it isn't entirely conclusive yet but initial analysis suggests it.

Honestly, getting the virus now might not be the worst thing. It doesn't kill most infected people at this point. But it can quickly evolve into something far deadlier, and when that happens the people who got it first might have the advantage of immunity.

Of course this is all speculative and it's obviously preferable to never get sick, especially since they might one day engineer a vaccine that confers immunity without the symptoms, but everything we know so far indicates that this virus isn't going to wipe out cities.

I'd like to expand on LimaUniformNovemberAlpha's comment
So, State of Turelisa, Leviticus has "most of its chapters consist of God's speeches to Moses, which God commands Moses to repeat to the Israelites." So, let's assume God said Leviticus 11:41-42. Abomination is defined as "a thing that causes disgust or loathing." So, God is saying how basically 90% of all animals are things that cause disgust or loathing, aka unpleasant things, aka failures. But how come they're all disgusting and failures, when God himself supposedly created them in Genesis? Sure, God may have created humans in his own image, but that doesn't explain why he couldn't have made all other animals perfect too.
In addition, God is saying that everyone should go vegetarian, or something very close to it, since almost all of the meat we eat are animals that "[go] on all fours." That includes: cows, pigs, sheep, deer, etc. I don't have a problem with that in particular, but I do have a problem when the same guy (God) says in Genesis 9:3 "Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything."
So...which is it?

Because of the fact the gender balance of young Chinese people was completely distorted towards men due to beliefs amongst many that having a boy was much better than a girl. I'd argue that was the only failing in the scheme otherwise it was quite a success and would probably work quite well in some parts of the world, unfortunately the parts were population density isn't as big a problem.

Man, it is unsettling how strongly this resembles what China looked like last time I was there. The anti-viral masks look just like the pollution masks, and the signs remind me of Shanghai Railway Station.

That said, do they really have to pay several soldiers to stand guard around the clock? Why not just have two fences, an inner and outer one, have the inner one electrified, and a warning sign around the outer one?
