Fuck the economy, people are stuck in a city panicking about whether they're all going to die, and for no reason - either it could have been effectively contained earlier or it's already in a bunch of cities so this quarantine is useless.

Two novel and remarkably deadly coronaviruses in less than a generation (three if you count MERS) isn't exactly normal. The PRC was up to something in its biological warfare labs and the cat left the bag too early once again.

You know, the emergence of new viruses doesn’t have to be the work of some nefarious biological weapons program or whatever. Given the fact that there are likely many countless undiscovered pathogens squirming around on this planet, we’re bound to encounter and become exposed to more than a few of them as time goes on.

So, I have not seen any official source yet, but word has spread round that the coronavirus has also reached Manila and Cebu. There hasn’t been any confirmation from MIAA/NAIA or MCIA in conjunction with DOH or Philhealth concerning this either, afaik.

Unfortunately for you, Plague Inc. is a video game where someone with intelligence (you, the player) literally alters the virus/bacteria/whatever. This is real life, and I'm pretty sure that in real life, viruses do not have the mental capacity of strategising their steps toward total control over the world. Heck, some even say that viruses are not even alive. Sure, they may mutate and change some of their traits, but I am almost certain that the virus is not thinking "Ok lads, first we'll just make the virus extremely contagious, but make sure to NOT make symptoms yet. Once everyone's infected, turn on all them symptoms, and boom, we win"

Even in a country as large population wise as China, a Quarantine of 20 million people is big, especially during the Lunar New Year.

China has quarantined the city. There are cases in the US now. My mom is upset, because the news initially denied there were any cases, but she knew there were because they were treating a person who got it at their work place. I feel sad for all the people traveling to and from China for the Lunar New Year, because this will make travel to and from China more difficult.

I have a feeling this is going to be similar to the Ebola scare for the US, I think we will get maybe a couple hundred cases, and then successfully quarantine it like we did Ebola.

Edit: while I still thinks it's going to be more of a scare than an epidemic, I do have to acknowledge that should we not be careful, it can get worse because of its ability to travel through the air.
