We have a day off, it's the snappily titled - Special Administrative Region Establishment Day here in Hong Kong, apparently there's going to be a march for democracy, which I'm entirely not going to join, I suspect I'll head out to an island and try and catch some surf,
I hear babies cry, I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

It's really hard to do anything special on a stat holiday that falls mid-week, unless you take the surrounding days off for holiday time.

This thread only applies to people who actually live in Canada, who celebrate Canada Day (such as expats), or who actually know what Canada Day is. Off-topic replies / spam (such as snarky smart-ass comments) or attempts at thread-jacking will be reported.

I visited Ottawa once about 13 years ago. It's a beautiful city.

Meh. I get used to it, then I go visit my sister in Montreal and by the time I get back it looks like a boring, conservative trash heap by comparison. :palm:

I used to be a "lol Canada = America's hat" American, but then their Governor General ate a seal's heart and terrified / impressed me into deep and abiding love for our Canuck brethren.

I'm not Canadian, but one of my friends is, so all of us are getting together at his place to get completely shitfaced and sing Canadian songs and end all our sentences with "eh".

Going out to go see some fireworks in an hour, hopefully.

I'm not sure if the Liquor stores ever reached an agreement, but I kind of hope they're still on strike, since their will be fewer rowdy drunks downtown. :)

We now practically read it "all men are created equal, except negroes" When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read "all men are created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and Catholics." When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretence of loving liberty -- to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocracy." - President Abraham Lincoln.

I love the fact that my favourate bar thought ahead and bought a month worth of stock in hopes to ride out the strike.

Clever of them. I saw the front page of the paper yesterday asking for a truce with the union for Canada Day, so it wouldn't ruin the celebrations.

Oh well, as long as I can see some fireworks somewhere and grab a bite to eat on the way, I'm happy.
