What are your plans for Canada Day?

Me? I'll probably go for drinks and then to the beach with friends. That's about it.

It's really hard to do anything special on a stat holiday that falls mid-week, unless you take the surrounding days off for holiday time.

1st July. It marks the passage of the British North America Act of 1867 when the colonies of Upper Canada, Lower Canada, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia were merged into a federal, self-governing dominion within the British Commonwealth. It's similar to a day of unification or a day marking the creation of a state. I would compare it to the first German Unification, except that Canada was still obliged to defer to the British Government on most issues pertaining to external or foreign affairs.

I actually wish we had some in Vancouver. They don't put on any fireworks shows because of the Festival of Light in August. Sometimes North Vancouver has fireworks, but it's nothing in comparison, and you can't see it very well from the city. I wish we had a parade at least.
