It's simple: What five reforms would you make to your own country if you had ultimate power? This is not a thread for DEBATING the reforms people would make UNLESS you have ALSO posted your reforms first.

For me it would be, in no particular order:

1: Universal Healthcare
2: Drug Law Reform (Legalizing weed and decriminalizing hard drugs for PERSONAL use (not sales) in addition to amnesty for people convicted under old laws)
3: Prison Reform (No more private prisons, no more mandatory minimum sentences, felons can vote)
4: Ranked Choice Voting
5: Legalize Machineguns (pewpew)

I might have been able to propose actual reforms if you were simply to posit us readers as heads of government with restrictions therein - but since I can't be trusted with any position more important than senior management (which I hold at my current company) or Head Girl (which I held when I was a Year 11 student in 1991/92 ;P)...

The reintroduction of the following institutions, in the following order, all of which count as "reforming" society from the state of having some flavour of Leviathan in power:

• Immediately: The Monarchy's status in power, including QEII as Head of State - by which necessitates now limiting myself to Head of Government - and Head of the Church of England.
• Within minutes of Point 1: The judicial systems of England and Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland; and the Supreme Court. This with the caveat that ongoing court cases should resume under their current conditions.
• Within minutes of Point 2: Free and fair Parliamentary Democracy - including the Lords; and snap elections for the Devolved governments and the Commons. From this point - or at least after whatever Purdah periods are somehow agreed upon by the courts - I will be able to campaign for my party, whatever it may be, and attempt to outline what actual reforms I would bring to the table.
• Within minutes of Point 3: Limitations on government power, i.e. Civil society's restoration - including local government and the Grammar Schools, business trading permits, re-implementation of Section 24A of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 and other pieces of legislation that provided power to institutions outside HM Government, etc.
• Within hours of this shenanigans beginning: An application to have Britain's suspension from The Commonwealth lifted. I have assumed that a suspension would be imposed in this event, as has happened when tyrants have taken over in other Commonwealth states. That makes five reforms and most things back to normal.

Having "gotten Brexit done" will not count as a reform off my bat in this instance because it is the byproduct of Parliament having been dissolved for election until late February at the earliest; this means that it is unable to pass either the Withdrawal Agreement Bill or any legislation to delay Brexit, meaning that the UK leaves the EU with no deal on January 31st as was the presumed legal default and not through any will of my own.

I started it for a specific reason hoping to get replies of a certain nature, and avoid a certain kind of toxic nonsense that tends to happen on NS. Since that's no longer allowed to be implicit in the thread, why bother?

There's no thread ownership here in General (the rules on that are slightly different in Roleplay). You can say what you'd like to see happen but you can't make it a rule. And anyway, how would you stop people from posting around your rule? Report them to Moderation? They're not breaking any official rules.

Don't worry about it, botched OPs happen from time to time. You can always improve it by another edit or just let the thread slide down. It will soon disappear or be closed given the current state of things.

•Pull all United States soldiers out of military bases worldwide
•Officially give all US overseas territories the option to declare independence
•Declare all anti BDS laws null and unconstitutional
•Heavily restrict what kind of surveillance the FBI, CIA and NSA can practice
•Revoke Ninja's citizenship and deport him to whatever country most Americans hate the most, so they can deal with him

1-Partly legalize all soft and some moderately hard drugs, but treat them like bowie knives are treated nowadays-in that you can't have them in a public place. You can have them in your own place, or in someone else's place with their consent, but not in public/government land. Of course drug driving would still be illegal.

2-End Benefit sanctions unless someone has got themselves jailed (in which case the prison would feed them.) If starvation is not allowed as a punishment for prisoners, then it shouldn't be a punishment for free people either.

3-Bring in rent control and use houses that are empty for more then three years to house people.

4-execute murderers and pedophiles.

5-make prisons places to fear but without making them like Shawshank.

One would involve breaking treaties to defend our allies, such as Poland.

Two is something not even States have, and if anything I'd like to nom more territory.

I don't know when we are keeping troops in poland. We have soldiers worldwide fighting in wars that aren't our own. Currently we are standing against iran to protect the Saudis and israelis despite the fact that they should be fighting that war and not us. We can work out treaties but in the end our soldiers should be brought home. As for #2 we as a country will be just fine without guam. Many territories may in fact choose to remain part of America or even become states. And #5 is a meme, but one we all should get behind, just like my petition to have Jaystation banned from owning camera equipment of any kind
