Then produce something solid which asserts the extent that the adoption of Christianity caused Roman decline, if it caused anything significant at all. And not just from your personal interpretation. If you actually know what you're talking about and have researched this, you ought to have read plenty on the subject and have sources readily at hand.

Memes aren't helping you any, especially not bad memes. And no one educated in history gives any credence to the concept of the "Dark Ages".

Well, if you're truly so concerned, here's a six-volume book on the matter:

http://www.gutenberg.org/files/25717/25717-h/25717-h.htm

Have fun.

As for laziness, I have two undergrads and a major in history. Bite me.

If you're treating that book as relevant to the current understanding of what happened you're biting yourself.

White Slavery?

The Chinese are selling Uighur's to factories for top dollar given the normal citizenry is too busy getting fired over this damn pandemic.

You are aware that most Tories were strongly anti-Catholic(ism)?

That wasn't really true of Jacobites. Plus a lot of the Catholics who refused to convert under Elizabeth I came from wealthier families that were able to pay the stiff fines associated with refusing to become a steady Anglican and probably had Tory sympathies at least initially. And quite a few prominent conservatives in the twentieth century were Catholic as well.

I think the meme documentary CSA had something about that.

Oh it was very true of plenty of English Jacobites. It's not as simple as the Wikipedia article would have you think. Take a look at the Duke of Beaufort for instance.

The geniuses are now busily telling us polygamy won't end negatively despite all evidence to the contrary. I hope they enjoy the consequences of a pool of young men with nothing to lose accelerating in growth should they ever get such an insane wish passed.

The slippery slope literally turned out to be a real thing and now we're having to literally oppose polygamy.

All kinds of poly is defectdefect, which should be heavily suppressed, but unfortunately our society penalises people who follow the rules and promotes those who don't

Imperium Romanum Sanctis wrote:As hard a pill as it can be to swallow, Christianity definitely played a prominent role in the fall of the Roman Empire. For the better part of three centuries, Christians were a subversive and dissident group who often refused to adopt Roman customs and were disloyal to the state. They weren't nearly as big of a problem as institutions like the Praetorian Guard, but they certainly didn't help to improve matters.

It was also rather problematic that, after the tables were turned and Christianity became the state-religion of Rome, the Church immediately set about destroying temples and removing everything it considered to be pagan. In its zealotry, over a thousand years of Roman heritage and culture were consecrated to the flames.

Granted, Christianity helped to keep the spirit of Rome alive through the dark days of the Middle Ages, but that was after the empire was dead.

The adoption of Christianity arguably subsumed a lot of the competing cult traditions that had created divisions and tensions within Roman society. There's a pretty strong argument to be made that Christianity actually slowed the decline of the Roman Empire, especially in the East where it continued on for another millennium. Importantly, the Church served as an institutional save point for a lot of Roman customs, eventually reintroducing them to Germanic populations in France, Italy, Spain, and Germany. Monogamy for instance. And the Latin language.

Massive LOL if you think that was ever enforced. It wasn't. Adultery was socially acceptable and done by most of the elites.

Augustus literally turned into the meme-worthy Thot Police and exiled his own daughter for being promiscuous. One of his principal criticisms of Marcus Antonius was that he was committing adultery with Cleopatra and disregarding his wholesome tradwife Octavia, Augustus's sister. The Romans did actually follow through on their attitudes towards adultery even if that wasn't always consistent or perfect. Because sexual impropriety tends to occur regardless of how strict social conventions are. That doesn't mean it isn't frowned upon and doesn't have consequences.
