Affordable housing coupled with jobs programs and community-related activities to create a sense of belonging would be a good start.

Affordable housing. Which real estate speculation is designed to override.

I'm well aware of that, hence why said affordable housing could only be created by bypassing that.

Wait, hold on, the house was occupied as a protest? Yeah, no, fuck off with that. If you can't protest within the boundaries of the law then you can shove off toward the nearest correctional facility for all I care. I don't support lawless protests of any kind no matter how noble their intentions may be.

The mere existence of the document is refutation enough to show that it has been highlighted as a recognised right, which was the point all along. Just because you have tried to bend and twist my point into something other than it was intended does not in any way invalidate it, hence why I keep telling you that you are reading far too much into this.

In the UK there are 23,000 homes that have been left empty for over 5 years. Not sure what the stats are in the US, but undoubtedly the number will be a great deal higher than that.

As of 2014 that number was 18,600,000 empty homes and around 600,000 homeless people at any one time.
So there are (again using numbers from 2014) six times the number of empty homes then there people who need a home.

To be fair, you're asking him to review a history lesson you should have gotten by like the 10th grade at least. That you somehow dodged any knowledge that the Civil Rights movement relied heavily on civil disobedience is kind of astounding, really.

Thank you for linking the very thing that states it has no legal power save for those places that idiotically decided to include it into their own constitutions. The USA is not one of those poor benighted nations.

The UN has no power. Pretending otherwise is foolish.

Power isn't limited to legal power, the link in particular talks about the influence it has had. If you seriously think that shit you made up earlier has the same kind of power...

Well, a right to housing isn't in the American Convention of Human Rights, the European Convention of Human Rights, the EU's Charter of Fundamental Rights, I could go on. Each of those instruments, however, do recognise a right to private property, phrased in some form or another.

And how do you know that those other conventions are right but the Universal Declaration of Human Rights? Sheer quantity?

The universal Declaration of human rights. Which is both legally non-binding and a 'Guideline' for the UN to follow. The same UN that has serious issues with it's agents raping people en masse, has no real teeth that aren't borrowed from real powers using it to disguise realpolitik as humanitarianism, and has fucking Somalia on their Human Rights Council...

Next time you want to use a pretend an institutions standards mean something send me something that actually means something somewhere. like maybe a law from South Ossetia.

So your response is a bunch of whiny diversions. I'm not surprised, but I am disappointed.
