China's been doing a pretty good job of combining Orwellian totalitarianism and propaganda with crushing megacorporate dominion. Just ratchet that up around tenfold and you'll have a pretty solid dystopia. Or maybe start having them eat bugs and live in pods.

Some authoritarian society that bans books, the Internet, and closes off its borders. I guess North Korea is the closest example.

I disagree but we'll leave it for a different topic. I just believe that the "land of the free" moniker the US uses should have an asterisk by it.

Each person is a slave, owned by god, the state. They are produced by a pair selected by the state for that purpose and immediately taken to be inducted in the the state doctrine and taught to perform basic duties. Upon reaching maturity, around ten or eleven they are placed in their assigned roles where they will work, 18 hours a day in filthy, toxic, hazardous conditions, until injury, disease, exhaustion or mental breakdown(mental breakdown including blasphemy such as questioning the instructions of a superior) render them unable to continue.
A popular Government, without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a Prologue to a Farce or a Tragedy; or, perhaps both. - James Madison.

Anarchy and anarchism ain't chaos, those are different thingies. Besides... total chaos has too short half life period and little to no means to maximize misery. And since there ain't no enforcement, nothing will prevent people from creating an awesome anarcho-commune or a new developed country with fair and just laws.

And people don't like to live in misery, and will go forth and fix it with all tools avaliable. So there must be a power of some sort to keep them in this dark state.

No. What would happen is the rise of armed gangs utilizing violence to control others. Of course something better will inevitably follow this period of gang warfare and violence, but it won't happen over night. Following the complete obliteration of law and order society will descend into chaos, which will be quelled not through reason and good-will but through force and violence, and led to the rise of armed groups utilizing whatever means necessary to remain in power. Fear, enslavement, intimidation, mass murder, etc. It will quite literally be post-apocalyptic. We see this in warzones and unstable countries all the time.

Because that's what happens when law and order become defunct and there is no one to enforce either. Society collapses, and if you ask me the collapse of society leads to mass suffering for everyone involved - even those with power in this new lawless world.

I'm pretty sure anarchists believe in a setup akin to a city state, like towns run by citizen councils. I'm not saying things would be perfect or even good, but I think the only person who ever advocated for complete lack of governance of any kind was GG Allin, and that was so he could rape and kill whoever he wanted.

North Korea still has some of the "benefits" of a communist system, including near universal literacy and a decent healthcare system for a country with such miserable resources.

This does not compensate, at all, for the many, many crimes against humanity committed in the country. It's just that we could, technically, be even worse. For example, add in Venezuelan-levels of violence and lawlessness, a collapsed economy, and Turkmenistan or Equatorial Guinea-levels of corruption.
