That is true, although it reminds me that a huge problem we've had with discussions of institutional racism and "white privilege" is that we must be clear about resolving these problems in a way that not only erases the disparity but is just. If, from this point forward, white people were given the same harsh sentences as black people for victimless drug crimes, that would be equal but not just. If as many white people were executed as black people, that would not be justice, because we know that many of the people who are executed are falsely convicted.

I think there would be less backlash to discussion of racial issues if we were more clear that we do not intend to resolve them by inflicting more hardship on white people, instead we want less hardship on people of color.

Nobody wants to inflict more hardship on white people, that's a lie made up by the alt-right to justify bigotry and to put civil rights for minorities in a bad light.

When talking about civil rights, somehow the white majority always goes directly to "well, only in a way which in no way whatsoever damages our position of privilege over these people", which is impossible.
