The point is, I don't put much faith in people. I assume that if my secret ever got out, my life as I know it would be over.

My friend Joe hooked up (I think you know what I mean) with a couple girls in highschool but he had to keep that shit secret because if it got out that these girls had sex with a guy with autism...imagine the Salem witch trials but it's 10 times worse

I pretty much agree with you.

The people who know I have an autism diagnosis are very close friends and family, and that's about it. Most of the people who know were pretty surprised when I told them.

I recall a particular quote by a guest once, "I didn't believe you were autistic until I saw all these "remember (x)" lists you put up in the apartment."

I have so many post-its that I have post-its summarising the other post-its and directing me to the right one.

I'm not autistic but instead dyspraxic, but I guess the overlap is needing workarounds for poor working/procedural memory?

When I saw this I thought "I have no trouble remembering things at home without post-its!"

Then I realised that the amount of post-it notes I have at school. Makes sense :D

I haven't, I was being saracstic, but I've heard of it and it's widely frowned upon as mind control in my country and as a result rarely used.

What country are you from? I am trying to do some research on outcomes for people with ASD in countries that utilize ABA interventions (the US and Canada) versus other countries. I mean a lot of literature shows ABA is more effective that eclectic therapy, but I think it would be interesting to see some sort of broad picture of how people fare under both systems.

I've got this whiteboard set horizontally on my desk, which I do clay projects on top of (Not the kind of clay that would smear on the board, doesn't stick to it).

With me, I write notes and reminders to myself around the clay on the whiteboard instead of Post-It notes.

ABA isn't therapy as you or I would describe it. It's essentially just gay conversion therapy* imposed upon autistics. It was even originally used as a form of gay conversion therapy. There's also an increased risk of suicide and depression amongst autistic people who have undergone ABA, as they are basically forced to mask their traits and live a lie.**

You see, you start pretty much from scratch when you work with an autistic child. You have a person in the physical sense – they have hair, a nose and a mouth – but they are not people in the psychological sense. One way to look at the job of helping autistic kids is to see it as a matter of constructing a person. You have the raw materials, but you have to build the person.

From my experience I can say with certainty that society does not know anything about autism. It's ok to belittle those with it because while we as a society have pushed that all races, genders and sexual orientation are equal, the whole idea of autism being a disorder inherently rests on the idea that we arent. We're at best unfortunate souls to be pittied and at worst are a problem that needs to be eradicated.

This is why I say nothing. Because I want to be treated like a human being

I don't have autism, so I guess that makes me neurotypical. I have known a few autistics in my life and they are alright people. Different, but alright. Online though I sometimes see rather obnoxious ones that seem to center their whole identity on their autism and seem to be feel entitled in some way.

Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7AeeGElK5UY

Of course, I know most autistics aren't like that and that Chris-chan is most likely just a horrible person that happens to have autism. Horrible people exist in every group.

You tell people you have autism, and they think cwc. You say "no no I have aspergers technically" and they think of Adam Lanza. You can't win. That's why you gotta keep it secret

I face the challenges that comes from living with autism, too. Discrimination has been, is and will continue to be a daily occurrence for me. Whether that's through cognizant decisions others make, or just ignorance of the fact. I have to live with the reality that the few bonds I do have with other people, my family will all end while I'm still alive and it'll be difficult to find anybody else to fill the void left behind, simply because it's so damn hard to form a connection with anybody. at some point I'll be completely on my own, devoid of support from friends and family. Such a future scares me, saddens me, and angers me.

Tbh I doubt Jared was even autistic in the first place, he made up a bunch of strange excuses for what he did and I think autism was one of them.
