Thoughts on the Cross

Postby Sundiata » Thu Dec 03, 2020 11:15 pm

After a long day how do you guys view the cross when you see it? What ideas go through your mind?

Attended First Friday Mass earlier, TLM instead of Novus Ordo (and thus a Votive Mass of the Sacred Heart). It wasn't a chanted Mass, so we the laity got to participate more in responding to the priest's versicles. Assuming tomorrow is the same (as it is the First Saturday, ergo Votive Mass of the Immaculate Heart), I'm more or less looking forward to it; hopefully when I can take my son to Bohol some time down the line I'll introduce him to the TLM.

The Cross is a sign that Our Lord Jesus Christ would go that far for the Salvation of All Mankind. After all, "No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends." (Jn 15:13, NABRE)

I don't typically see in on the average day to see it after a long day.

Yeah, I kind of feel bad about complaining every time I see one. For example, "My day might be bad but at least it's not that bad." It's tough when you imagine yourself up on that cross experiencing the passion of Christ.

I read something shocking today, in a prayer intentions book.

"I do not see any reason anybody would pray for me, I mean, I would not pray for me, I am not important enough"

Felt bad for whomever wrote this.

I think it's a feeling we're all bound to feel to be quite honest, especially if we make a grave mistake. Fortunately, we're always being prayed for.

Yeah, not to use flowery language but you do matter way more than you think. It's the double-edged sword of free will because without it you'd just act good all of the time. You'd also just fulfill your purpose like an automaton, so to speak. God gave us freedom.

I felt this way as a Catholic until I attended my first meeting for Opus Dei. Are you doing well professionally? In your career or work?

Actually that was me after I realized I did something un-Christian only after the fact. Like holding grudges, judging people, or hating another person.

Oh, for me it's often swearing or saying the occasional stupid thing. Do you pray for help or seek forgiveness after you make mistakes?

Sorry, but I thought swearing was also synonymous vulgarity.

Well, profanity is a mortal sin but if I recall correctly that's profanity against God. With respect to the swearing of oaths, I think that's why it is mortally sinful to become a Freemason.
