25-year-old Anna-Nicole Heinrich is the youngest person to be elected president of the EKD synod. Here's an article in German and here's another article in English.

That's fascinating; it will be interesting to see the direction she takes her church.

Maybe Hamas shouldn't have used Gaza as a staging point to launch hundreds of rocket attacks into Israel for years?

If you want to champion the palestinian cause by all means, but please keep it in the Isreal threads.

How dare Hamas retaliate for the constant murder of their children in the West Bank.

Many of the Palestinians are Christians. Do you want the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem to shut up about it? His flock is under attack, an Orthodox parish and a Catholic Church were bombed by the IDF last night.

Christ the King.

Ideally yes, but that might be a while hence why I put benevolence in quotes since it is probably going to be a fallible human.

Neither side is in the right.

Once again, there's a thread for this conflict, this isn't it.

Invading and occupying your neighbors and then removing their people from their homes to replace them with your own people is not self defense.

Most of the Christians in Israel are Palestinian, not Israeli, and the mayor of Lod has said that any Arab caught outside when the army arrives will be shot, with the PM saying that there will be no criminal inquiries for the shooting of protesters.

The same statement also referred to what Israel is doing as constant aggression and called for intervention to stop the Israeli encroachment on Palestine.

The Christian thread seems like a plenty good place to ask people to pray for a country with a sizeable Christian population that is about to have a ground invasion against it and where the Christian population has been bombed within the last 24 hours. You don't have to grandstand against Eastern Christians on every political issue.

Bringing it up is one thing. Nobody was debating the issue of Tigray, we all collectively agreed it was bad and called for prayers etc.

When UMN asked for prayers, we said sure, I said also pray for Israel. And that's where UMN crossed the line into making this a debate of Palestine vs Israel. By all means pray for the people, share information about the local Church's status in all this. But this isn't the place to debate Palestine vs. Israel. We have threads dedicated to that.

Yeah because you saying that when Palestinians are overwhelmingly the victims of the violence and the Israelis are the aggressors is just blatantly trying to get a rise.

Even so, I only said that Hamas had offered a ceasefire, which Israel had rejected, your response to that was to justify the rejection of the ceasefire. If you want to pray for both sides to bring peace, why support the rejection of the ceasefire?

And it is this US VS them that is the biggest problem, it turns groups of people into faceless masses.

The problem is that there are people on both sides that benefit from the violence, and regular people are the victim as always.

We just need to pray for peace, for everyone.
