Indeed. Excommunication in the Catholic Church is actually very common. I think that those unfamiliar of the concept think that excommunicated Catholics are treaded like excommunicated scientologists.

By the way, isn’t there a class of Excommunication that is so severe that if a Mass is being said, it must be halted immediately if they go inside the church or chapel it is taking place in?

Maybe, but the 1983 code of Cannon law doesn’t mention it and Pontificale Romanum doesn’t either. Pontificale Romanum really took away the hard penalties from those that are excommunicated.

Yeah there's no official one like that, but Anathema is pretty severe. If someone whose been anathematised showed up at mass it'd be like Capulet showing up to a Montague party, record scratch and all.

Anathemas aren't given out has liberally like they were before. I guess the Church wants to make it easier for people like me to return to the Church if we wish.

Anathemas are typically reserved for heretics, usually in the clergy. They're not gonna anathematise Joey bag o donuts from the corner shop.

I don’t think were going to get many Anathemas with uncle Frank in charge.

Probably not, but some excommunications are inevitable I think with the German situation.

I must ask, who do you think is worst. Clergy that bless same-sex unions in secret, or the ones that do it loudly and proudly, like we see in Germany.

How would affirming opposition to abortion make trads schismatic?

I’m sorry. I’m the king of typos.
What I meant to say is that the Vatican warning clergy about denying communion to supporters of abortion rights would result in trads becoming sedes. I’ve noticed one thing that unites trads and Novus Ordo conservatives, and that’s their strong disapproval of giving communion to politicians that support and even want to expand abortion rights.

From what i know about the matter - trads already have a lower opinion of vatican than you think and things like this are considered unsurprising and merely confirming their opinion. I highly doubt anyone would switch to sedevacantism who doesn't favour it already - it's a far more niche ideology than people think.

What did they say about rad-trads? Could they at least identify them properly or were they used as a generic boogeyman?

I know people in Opus Dei so I'm not surprised by that. Who did they describe as rad-trads exactly?

Well, that could be because they’re borderline schematic at worst, and lack charity at best. I should know. During my time as a trad Catholic, faithful Novus Ordo Priests warned me about some of the more radical elements among trads, including sedes. I’ve noticed that among some of those that attended the Extraordinary form, there was this sense of superiority, even over those that attended even the most reverent and proper Novus Ordo said by the most faithful Priests.
In fact, this reminds me of one of the homilies said by an FSSP Priest. This was the one I mentioned earlier. He made some disparaging comments about the second Vatican Council. At the time, I freaking loved it. Looking in hindsight, it was dangerously close to schism.

Well of course, The Sedevacantists outright reject the current Pope and believe there hasn’t been a Pope since 1958. Some go even further back and say we haven’t had a Pope since Pius X.

I have always seen sedevacantists and rad-trads as separate groups. It's a bit silly to me how easily the institutions randomly mix them and their beliefs.

Why would you be a trad if you don't think pre-VAT2 stuff and the old mass are superior? Genuinely curious

Some do, yes. But with Traditionalist organizations that are in union with the Holy See have to also agree that the Novus Ordo sacraments are 100% valid and Vatican II was a valid council.

From my experience with them even the most radical among the SSPX see novus ordo sacraments and vatican 2 as valid - they do protest them hardcore, but validity simply isn't the theological angle they attack them from - which is why this narrative from Church institutions always surprised me. Also from what I know even majority of ecclesia dei trads dislike vatican 2 and related - which is generally the reason why tehy became trads - to reject them.

I'm pretty sure I'm a Protestant! I'm only fourteen though so my beliefs aren't set in stone. I don't believe like fully in the bible so I think that makes me a liberalist. I'm just on this game to have fun!

I'll try news again, maybe it'll go better this time. :p

25-year-old Anna-Nicole Heinrich is the youngest person to be elected president of the EKD synod. Here's an article in German and here's another article in English.
