Modern American yoga is so divorced from Indian religious practices originally called that, it's now just a bunch of physical exercises. I really fail to see how any of that could possibly be “inviting demonic possession.”

This is just something I chanced across whilst browsing Reddit, and thought you all might get a laugh out of it. I find it particularly hilarious that someone would think that reading The Lord of the Rings, a book series by a deeply Christian author who consciously incorporated Christian theological concepts into his work, might bring about demonic possession.

The source mostly claimed that yoga is monist and Gnostic. I don't really want to get into why such an assertion is incorrect because this isn't a yoga discussion thread, but the author is mostly throwing around philosophical words which I'm not sure she really grasps the meaning of, and failing at being humorous.

Easter = Passover, originally a jewish feast to celebrate the freeing of the jews from egypt, which was then reused by christians to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.
Again, things like the chocolate eggs were introduced later (chocolate eggs are actually a very modern invention, there were no chocolate cakes or eggs in the middle ages, because no cacao before the discovery of the americas)

Yoga is considered a Hindu practice, not a demonic one. But the Church warns against it because some of the traditional tenets (chakras, energies, etc.) go against how the Church views the spirit. While there’s a lot of mixing of folk and Catholic religions which is accepted as a certain breed of Catholicism (especially in Central and South America, and among Native Americans/First Nations people), yoga is not considered compatible.
