The annoying thing about that is that unless you pay a fortune for it it's just applewood smoke flavour powered on cheese.

I was exposed to a real applewood smoked cheddar this Christmas and can never go back.

Oh, and then you go exploring at places like small town farmers markets and find the wonderful little local creameries and discover even more delicious cheeses! Next time I'm up on the central Cali coast I am getting some more of that delicious Ragged Point cheese from Stepladder Creamery, srsly.

Oh man, and I've had an absolutely fucking amazing panko-fried brie at Thanksgiving. So frickin' flavorful, paired wonderfully with the raspberry-orange-cranberry sauce and fruit it was served with...

Goddamnit. I may need to go raid the fancy cheese counter at my local market again, all this cheese talk is making me crave it something fierce! :lol2:

I'm sure there are good strong cheddars, and bland plasticy muck, from both countries.

The only major ingredient should be Milk. Rennet and/or salt might also be added.

I'm not a cheese aficionado so I wouldn't really know. I like cheddar that tastes like... cheddar, I guess. So long as it's not the cheap, fake stuff that makes you shit bad idgaf.

Gorgonzola, only because Danish blue isn't an option. Besides being one of the world's tastiest cheeses it's a triumph of marketing. I always imagine the first guy to walk into the Roquefort cheese caves and think "omg what are we going to do with all this moldy cheese? Wait a minute...we tell people it's super classy to eat it!"

Mouldy cheese has been around a lot longer than Danish Blue. But I will agree that Danish Blue is amazing.

Yes, in Wisconsin (another US cheese capitol) that also makes wonderful cheeses) but the rest of the world was also invited.

Particularly if they invented a kind of cheese (Vermonter perhaps) and wouldn't let anyone else use the name.

Of course the US must have good cheeses. Any country with a dairy industry would, and it makes me think there's probably no other food with as many distinct varieties around the world.
