I can’t believe Greta Thunberg won the person of the year

Don’t get me wrong, I’m an environmentalist. You really need to care about the environment, but definitely not by being a drama queen.

Greta Thunburg is a drama queen. Her parents are actors, and she planned everything out. She condemned Sweden, the greenest countries in the world that aims to reach carbon neutral soon, for not doing enough but is somehow completely fine with China polluting. Why don’t you go cry at Tiananmen? You scared?

What a hypocritical drama queen. Pretends to be a brace hero against governments, but a coward inside. Sure let’s see what she could make up to explain that. ‘How dare you’

She did nothing, I repeat, nothing, to help the environment. She is trying to draw attention and build a hero style thing for herself, how pathetic is that.

Remember how she went hyper-cool mode by going to New York on a boat, heck look at all the people who served her on the trip. Of course they called themselves fellow environmentalists even though they’re just servants. Somehow having servants to serve her is fine but taking a plane isn’t, cool now we got publicity stunts from her.

She deserves no awards, and definitely no congratulations. To save the environment we don’t need publicity queens like her, we need genuine people trying to take small steps to save the world.

Oh and look, an article from online:
Are you fecking kidding me

Look, I'm not mad that we (Hong Kongers) aren't the Person of the Year. I'm mad that Greta Thunberg is the winner.

She's a god damn hypocrite. She did a "zero carbon trip" across the Atlantic with small boat that generates energy for the voyage. But each time it goes to US and UK, two crewmembers will have to fly to the respective locations to retrieve it. Which means four men will have to use the airplane, while if she just took the plane herself with his dad only two will have to ride the plane. Four people using the plane (and only the plane) produces 2,134,800 grams of C02. Look who's producing emissions?

Oh, and the manufacturing of her Tesla Model 3 and her Europe train trip produces quite an amount of carbon, don't forget that 63.5% electricity is produced by fossil fuel.

She probably has less carbon emissions than most people, that's undeniable, but she doesn't deserve so much attention for screaming at politicians. Indeed, she's bringing attention to climate issues, but not everything is solvable. Imagine the socioeconomic consequences.
When she called on all countries to stop carbon emissions, did she realise how many developing countries have no way to feed their people except carbon emissions?

All I see her do is
a) Scream at lawmakers to guilt them
b) Skip planes, which is unavailable for people who have a job
c)Strike from school, unavailable to kids who actually need to learn

Is she a scientist who contributed to reducing emissions? No.
Is she some community leader? No.
She's too young and inexperienced she's born with a famous mother (opera singer) and is privileged, yet she screams "yOu rUINeD mY chILdHoOD"? HoW dArE sHE say that? hOW dArE sHE say that while millions of people are starving around the globe?

I'll credit her for her genuine beliefs on saving this planet, but instead of throwing speeches everywhere, how about actually do something? She does not deserve it.

But, if the public wishes, she shall be the person of the year. Now that's true democracy.

Oh btw, you know how she rode the train. I like trains too, it’s environmentally friendly. Oh but look at Greta Thunberg ruining it, first class, packaged plastic meals, and plenty more carbon producing stuff. Oh and you see her jeans? Those waste plenty water, why don’t you condemn yourself then Ms. Attention Seeker?

Ok here I wrap up my rant.

So basically you do not like her because she -rightly- pointed out that all that effort western nations claim to be making is not even a single percent of what they should be doing ?

Plus I don't think she has ever used herself as a role model for "doing better" because we're all guilty in burning the world. For most of us it's because we don't have any other choice.

I saw her post on Twitter about human rights day, she says human rights are the most challenged by climate change. Really dude? Not the thousands of people slaughtered in different massacres, not the rapes many committed, not the blinded, hurt or killed in protests of the world?

Sure climate change is severe, but by making a publicity stunt like this and undermining the lives of millions who have their actual human rights offended, it’s hard to think you are not a drama queen.

I even suspect that she said this so she could make Hong Kong protestors less significant, and allowing her to win the person of the year. Afterall the results are published just a few days after the human rights day. Look at how beautifully planned her publicity stunt is! Her singer actor mom must be proud

Okay, nice job giving in to the right-wing conspiracy theory AND being a fanboy of the Hong Kong trust fund larpers.

I don’t like her because she’s a hypocrite. You don’t go around and scold at people while ignoring the largest contributors to problem.

And do you really think she is there to actually promote environmentalism? Consider this, she is fine with China polluting while condemning Sweden for being the leader of carbon reduction? What is that?

I agree with you. At my political meetings at school, teachers use her as an example but I see right through that bs. She sucks. She is literally doing things a YouTube brat would do and get hated on for; the only difference is she isn't a YouTuber.

I feel like now would be an appropriate time to mention that Russia actually benefits from climate change.

Right wing conspiracy, lol wat

Apparently she undermining people being killed is a conspiracy. Apparently her playing games with fancy photos is being a true warrior of the environment, apparently driving a boat across the Atlantic while having 4 other people to retrieve it for her, through air travel, is what you do to protect the environment.

We need actual regulations on carbon emission, not fancy speeches in the UN where countries have to play games with you and pretend to actually care even tho they don’t.

Agreed. There is little to no correlation between human rights and climate change (Hong Kong is protesting because of China not the environment). It's a strange correlation to make, especially since it is so outlandish, but then again, here ways of being eco-friendly are unrealistic for most

The problem with Greta is that actual meaningful climate change activists get over-looked, and almost half of everyone watching this unfold just assumes climate change is even more of joke than they already think it is.

She could’ve gone to parks to help plant trees, or she could’ve wrote an article to encourage people to do that with her, but nope, she gotta have publicity stunts by meeting with politicians (who are also having their publicity stunts, so they aren’t cruelly wanting to help the environment), or of course she could go to her fancy Tesla while calling out people for ‘ruining her childhood’

REAL environmentalists don’t do these stunts

Where do you think regulations come from? The people who go to listen to speeches at the UN write them. Thunberg yelling at world leaders to get their shit together is far more likely to make a difference than what mode of transport she uses.
