This is the same dumbass police department that disgracefully handled the Parkland shooting. My guess is that they pulled this mouthbreather stunt to recoup some lost ego.

God, this makes me irrationally angry. The UPS driver and some random fucking bystander in their car were killed by the police living out an action fantasy. It could've easily been me, you, or anything else on their daily commute in the place of that driver, minding our business before we're taken from our friends and family. Fuck Broward County, and fuck those fools in uniform with a hardon for bloodshed.

Yes, so instead of taking cover from fire behind a metal vehicle, police should stand out in the open and get shot at there, because god forbid they try to live.

That metal vehicle won't stop much in the way of bullets. Anything bigger than a 9mm pistol will go right through every part except the engine, really. The metal ain't as thick as you think, and the steel is not properly hardened for use as armor.

No, I'm saying if an armed suspect is using a human shield you back off and contain the threat while waiting for a negotiator or more trained units to arrive instead of just going "fuck it" and opening fire.

Opening fire on a busy intersection, riddling a van full of holes fully aware that there is a hostage situation and killing two innocent people is somehow a non-issue? Chasing a UPS van with helicopers and DOZENS of patrol cars is a sane and reasonable response?

In simple terms, yes. But they need to be drastically, radically reformed to ensure that this shit fucking stops as close to as completely as possible. And, most importantly, they need to be absolutely accountable to the communities that they serve, with the communities they serve having oversight on these reformed departments and the power to change them and remove those who try and pull shit.

Right now, it's so shit in America that it's pretty safe to say that many, if not most LEOs are literally bottom-of-the-barrel gung-ho dickwads who love the idea of stamping down on people needlessly and ruthlessly.

And I know what happened. Not every confrontation unfortunately can be handled with words. The police aren't always right but are a lot more than the media let's on. It should be reported on because people need to know these things happen but just because you hid behind a car doesn't make it a human shield and firing back to keep them down in the car doesn't make it shooting hostages
