I get the strong feeling that socialism/communism is about to get really popular in the US soon. Like the Alt-right had its time in 15/16. The alt-left might have its shot in 2020.

What leads you to think that?

The alt-left is a misnomer of a term, sorta made up. It's not some vein of communism making a comeback, more of a return to Progressive Era populist left politics tbh.

Even then, left-wing social movements seemed to amplify after the recession, but they fizzled out fast and led to more reactionary, austerity driven policies. So I'm not too optimistic about a left-wing comeback, unfortunately.

Another Roaring 20s in the next few years? Highly doubtful IMO. There were many specific factors that led to the time of prosperity and luxury that is the Roaring 20s, much of which as of now we lack. I'm expecting the next decade to be a decade of excess social change in societal structure and the people's perception of things such as corporations and governments. Maybe we might even see disastrous things happen next decade. Unfortunately, depending on how you count, next decade starts either at the end of this month or end of next year so be prepared to get pushed against by reactionism.

Eh, I'm seeing a spread of radical left-wing ideologies and their increasing factionalisation of others and themselves but yeah I'm not sure if they will get a hold. The next decade is going to dictate a lot of things for all ideologies.

I expect to see a leftward trend in the coming decades, as the older, more conservative generations die off and younger, more liberal generations replace them (and gen z is looking even more liberal than millenials, last I saw)

Gen Z according to what I've read is not that liberal at all. My generation is more libertarian than anyone else but we don't like right or left wing politics and for the most part cynically snear at their pathetic plans

Per Pew, Gen z does seem pretty liberal, and tend to take the less than libertarian view that government should do more to solve problems

Generally speaking millenials and gen z are more liberal but I don't think there'll be a left-wing surge as the conservative views are still there, just in the form of memes and Ben Shapiro rather than old-timey racism. Also SJWs have been parodied (or "called-out" as they'd say) so heavily that it's perhaps not funny anymore from it being overdone.

Because theres at various places on the Interwebs a lot of talks that comes across like "Get communist or bust!" which is somewhat remniscent to "Get Fascist/Alt-right or bust!" of 2016 trend. Like what the cool kids do. It doesnt has to mean much, its a tendency, a trend, that is not necessarily representative but rather indicative. Also, needless to mention alot are probably the same people who just ideology swapped.

But, as politicians and media firmly in the pocket of multinational corporations will never tire of telling you, you should honor those exalted job creators for so efficiently exploiting you instead of calling them out as the criminal tax dodgers they are. When in doubt, grovel harder for the capitalist aristocracy, for they have more money than you and are therefore superior in every way.

That being said, what made the roaring twenties so special was the fact that the Great War pretty much killed the mindset of the Victorian age, together with several empires in Eurasia. Also there was the Spanish flu, which actually killed more people than the global conflict previously mentioned. To find modern equivalents of those events in this day and age is going to take some creativity.

The repeating of the century does little than have some astrompnomical significance.

It matters, like birthdays and sutxh, because of people.

So if people have been believing for 100 years that 2020 will be great, what does that mean ?

Also look through this “thinking” lens at the economy, and you will have your answer.
