I'm not doing legwork, check the wikipedia article. Zimmerman was not arrested after the shooting and was never going to be charged because absolutely nothing suggested the case was anything but clear cut self-defense. The police made clear he had a right to defend himself and the matter would have been closed if not for weeks of backlash playing up the racial angle until the governer sicced a special prosecutor on him to shut people up.

Another fellow was kind enough to give me an NYT article from the time. It is evidence enough tbh, I believe you are correct on that matter. I was surprised at it's quality compared to what we get today.

And the fact that the witness testimony, hospital report of his injuries, injuries to Trayvon's knuckles, the fact that the firearm failed to cycle(consistent with be grabbed as Zimmerman testified), grass stains on the back of his jacket, gunpowder scorches on Trayvon's clothes all supported his claim. The alternative is that there was a conspiracy between Zimmerman, the hospital, neighborhood, coroner and police to manufacture evidence of Zimmerman's innocence of a crime which they did not intend to charge him with.

That is evidence they were fighting, not evidence that Martin initiated it as Zimmerman claimed.

If Martin had killed Zimmerman, Martin could claim Zimmerman initiated the confrontation and use the same evidence as proof.

They used to have interesting articles every so often in their defense, despite their obvious bias. They once interviewed a former Ba'athist general who had fought from Iran-Iraq to Gulf 2 Electric Boogaloo and asked him why he joined ISIS. It was fascinating stuff, he went into how Maliki became a dictator, Iraq became an Iranian puppet and his tribe was being systemically starved to death of food & funds. You need to be somewhere you're allowed to be doing something you're allowed to be doing but regardless, and people forget this, Zimmerman was not a stand your ground case, it was standard self defense.
