I'm going with current Germany, since I live in it. All things considered, things are pretty good.

But anon, surely you can see the utility of vast, rolling estates, an imperial diet, and an elective monarchy?

The HRE had a cool aesthetic and the witch hunts and wars of religion were metal as Hell, but probably not a good time to actually experience...

Honestly it really wasn't as big of a mess as it sounds like on paper. It was an organized state if the Imperial Authority was strong, it was an organization of 300+ states pretending to owe loyalty to the Emperor if Imperial Authority wasn't. Just like every other feudal realm in the time. It just so happened, Imperial Authority was seldom "high" after the 1500s.

Buy a single ticket for the university kid. Buy an english to/from german dictionary too, as a gift, since you're not that cruel.

The poll option "Split up Germany east/west" is just weird. Give each its own poll option, as lumping them together under the same option just means that it is impossible to opt for one or the other; as it is a very important distinction since they were very different from each other.

Well the fact that inheritance laws led to states increasingly breaking up was another problem.
The states themselves were not stable either.
The mediatisation came too late to save it.

And the lack of religious tolerance, while not unique was a big problem because as soon as the reformation happened the whole thing imploded into some of the most brutal religious warfare ever seen.

And the fact that the imperial institution was so week it relied on the force of personality of the emperor. Which worked when the emperor was strong and capable, but meant with a weak or less capable emperor imperial authority completely failed.

True these problems occurred in other feudal realms, but feudalism was of course a fundamentally flawed system.

And most other feudal states eventually did create a better sense of organization and identity than it did.

At least then it wasn’t able to conquer, kill and rape the rest of Europe anymore! In my opinion, it should of stayed like that and never been allowed to reunify.

Europe’s economic prosperity depended on a stable German nation with its industrial might.

Keeping Germany as a divided pseudo colony would not be in the best interests of Europe as a whole, Poles and Frenchies aside.

Yeah, as much as the Merkel Reich memes are fun, and there can be complaints that Germany excessively dominates the EU, it is not like Germany is going to go on an imperialism rampage or anything. And having a strong but not hostile Germany has some benefits too.

Anyways there is no good way to not “allow” it to reunify. There is no justification under any international law for doing so and would have required keeping East Germany under occupation and dictatorship, forcing it to stay separate.

The Poles are actually relatively happy with the reunification. The price that (West) Germany paid for it was removing any and all claims to the territory East of the Oder-Neisse line.
