This sounds like a well-intentioned policy that may have been applied too broadly.

A hideously scarred burn victim sharing their story to try to educate people about safety should be allowed to do that without any interference.

Or if some deformed dude is snowboarding or something, OK, let people watch his snowboard video.

But if you've got a video of someone that is mentally disabled and might not understand that they are on camera, and the video makes them look stupid, I can understand not wanting to let that go viral.

I'm not a big social media person and I never used TikTok anyway. It's not that I'm worried about using it, just never saw the appeal. I don't think social media is obligated to be neutral, but people should learn not to rely on it too heavily to shape their perception of reality.

As such, of course a Chinese company would want to restrict the visibility of disabled individuals. It would perfectly in line with the social policies and viewpoints of their society and government.

When I was teaching English in China, there were a couple of classes where they put disruptive mentally disabled students in the same class with everyone else instead of using special needs classes. And I don't just mean kids with mild learning disabilities, I mean kids that were non-functional and would act out in class disrupting everyone else's education. I was told that they could not put special needs students in separate classes because that would be discriminatory and they did not want to discriminate against the disabled.

So treating the disabled differently is a departure from that.

It serves the interests of their monitored, censored, and restricted society. Moral degradation does not have a place among the main Chinese society. And due to the orthodoxy of Chinese tradition, those who were naturally outcasts of society are considered morally degrading to the fabric of society. Hence, why disabled people aren't treated the same across China.

I agree, and I say that as someone who is autistic and thus a likely target of said assholes. If you doxx someone then you become an even bigger asshole.
