Yes, but in this case it's basically only Munk and a couple of other people who's advocating for it. It's not a situation like Scotland, where a significant enough group of people want independence to the point where it's an actual mainstream idea that's considered.

If Northumbria was given independence, I'd bet 90+% of people wouldn't want it and would try to re-join the UK. The only way you'd keep it independent is through force or a refusal to let them into the UK again.

On the first point, I mean a small amount of people pushing for something so that it grows is nothing new. I mean, that's how most political movements start. Mocking a political movement just because it's small is kind of lazy imo.

I'm pretty sure it would only be given independence after a referendum in which a clear majority wanted it.
