Wasn't Northumbria cobbled together by Anglo-Saxon invaders from the various polities of Yr Hen Ogledd? And wasn't its language a form of Old English? Aneirin wrote about that conflict in Y Gododdin. I would strongly contest the assertion that Northumbria had a culture that distinct from Wessex or Mercia in light of the fact that they all spoke the same language, possessed an extremely similar proto-ethnic identity, and had genetically related populations overall. Any argument for national self-determination seems to fall flat on those grounds. Perhaps an argument for localism might prove more compelling. And that's before we even go out to survey the locals.

No it is not. It is part of Scotland which is in turn part of the UK. Northumbria has not existed for around a millennia and thus it has no claim to Scottish lands. That is a very nonsensical "justification".

Yes, but in this case it's basically only Munk and a couple of other people who's advocating for it. It's not a situation like Scotland, where a significant enough group of people want independence to the point where it's an actual mainstream idea that's considered.

If Northumbria was given independence, I'd bet 90+% of people wouldn't want it and would try to re-join the UK. The only way you'd keep it independent is through force or a refusal to let them into the UK again.
