They see a chance to make a buck. Either a collector will buy these for 1/10th the value (100 million) or they will melt them down and sell the materials for 1/1000th the value( 1 million).

and a irreplaceable piece of German history will be lost. What is the value in doing that?

You can’t be serious. Why have any museums at all by that logic?Ifreann wrote:Money, you see, can be exchanged for goods and services.
Yeah let’s steal and destroy irreplaceable parts of our countries history and culture for cash. Only a truly selfish person would do something like that

Yeah, probably.
Why are you acting so shocked about this? People steal things, preferably valuable things, because they want money. Have you never encountered this concept before? Why do you think people rob gas stations or liquor stores or banks? Money's really useful and they want it.

Robbing and destroying your countries history is the worst kind of theft in my view

Well, you can’t really destroy a country’s history via a jewel heist. I imagine Germans figured out that “writing” business and recorded their history in a number of different physical and electronic devices.
While it’s kinda shitty, it isn’t a huge or even irreplaceable loss. As someone mentioned, if they’re sold to a collector instead of broken down, then there’s a chance of recovery.
