I think the next real wave it will be cryptocurrency and freedom from a single state currency and crazy taxes on which pissed homeless people contain.

If cryptocurrency really takes off, I have no doubt the government will crush it with an iron fist.

Hell, we will be lucky if cash even exists anymore 50 years from now.

Yes to both of these unfortunately. I remember some years ago, a treasury official wrote a length op ed in one of the major papers advocating we ban cash because we can't track it. This was meant to be treated with earnestness and seriousness. How terrible, the people of Hong Kong are figuring out why cash has a use at the moment.

Without the EC, maybe. Americans are increasingly voting Democrat- Republicans only won the popular in 1 of the last 7 elections, but there was a Republican elected 3 out of those 7 times.

The solution to this de facto one-party state isn't keeping the Electoral College, though, it's just breaking down the two-party system and creating more political parties.

I propose that the Senate should be changed into a Parliament proportionally elected. The House would stay the same with each district having their own representative, but the Senate would be that the whole nation votes. If the Green Party gets 4% of the national vote, they get 4 seats. This would make third parties consequential. For example, it might be that the Democrats have slightly less than half the seats, so in order to pass legislation they have to put a few things in the bill that the Green Party demands. I also think authoritarianism would decrease because Greens, Libertarians, and Progressives could form coalitions against some things like renewing the Patriot Act.

Not really. Americans who were previously Republican aren't suddenly converting to Democrats. It's that the population of existing Democrats is growing while the population of existing in Republicans isn't.

Probably the Democrats will eventually split when they gain about a two-thirds majority

But that doesn't fix the issue of people voting for one of two parties when it comes to presidential elections. A combination of breaking up the Dems and GOP and introducing ranked voting would fix that.

Seems like someone is blaming "mass" immigration for the rise of the democratic Party.

I think he's proposing the transition into a parliamentary system of government.

Wait, what's the difference between a parliament and a congress again?

I believe the words parliament, congress, and assembly can be used interchangeably to describe a body of elected legislators.

Anyway, I was proposing that the Senate be reformed into an institution resembling many European parliaments, in which each voter chooses a party and seats are distributed proportionally. Not modeled after any specific country though. Some require 5% or higher for a party to get any seats, though I believe to dismantle the 2 party system in America, even 1% of the vote for a certain party should allow them one seat (or more, the new Senate doesn't need only 100 members).

However I do not believe the President should be chosen by the ruling party as is seen in Europe and elsewhere, I think the President should be elected by popular vote.
