Tomorrow night and no, it's not anarchy. The last time people were told not to come to work, national parks and museums were closed, some other things, but the mail was delivered, the armed forces stayed on the job, etc. You could look this up, you know.

Everything to come close to proper chaos near the end of the last one once the ATC stopped showing up to work.

Postby ArenaC » Wed Nov 20, 2019 9:43 pm

Confusion in the thread has arisen to whether lapsing is in 18 minutes or 24 hours and 18 minutes.

23 minutes and counting down. There’s no apparent hope.

Well just like regarding the government shutdown you're mistaken.
Most of the time I have no idea what the hell I'm doing or talking about.

”Many forms of government have been tried and will be tried in this world of sin and woe.
No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is
the worst form of government, except for all the others that have been tried from time to time." -
Winston Churchill, 1947.

"Rifles, muskets, long-bows and hand-grenades are inherently democratic weapons. A complex weapon makes the strong stronger, while a simple weapon – so long as there is no answer to it – gives claws to the weak.” - George Orwell

We’re not certain; a post came up saying that it’s not gonna be for an extra day plus that time. We’re confused currently.

Some People at The New York Times wrote:The U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday approved legislation to avert a widespread government shutdown later this week with a bill extending temporary federal funding through Dec. 20.

The legislation passed the House by a vote of 231-192, with all but a dozen Republicans voting against the funding.

It now goes to the Senate, which will aim to approve it before midnight Thursday when existing funds expire. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Monday said the White House had indicated its support for the bill.

This second stop-gap bill since September is needed because Congress has not completed a series of regular appropriations bills for the fiscal year that began on Oct. 1.

That in part is because of disagreements between Republican President Donald Trump and Democrats, who control the House, over the billions of dollars he wants to build a U.S.-Mexico border wall.

The same disagreements resulted in a record-long, 35-day partial government shutdown that began late last December and extended into early 2019.

The government would have no money left to it. That doesn't mean that the country has no money, just that the allocations made have run out.

In essence Congress creates what is called an appropriation bill where it allocates a set amount of tax money to different parts of the government. Without this bill, taxes are essentially not allocated to the various agencies, and eventually those agencies run out of money to work. The tax money has still been collected, but the various agencies cannot use it.

That would be because there are certain parts of the government that are considered so vital that employees have to come to work or the nation would fall into chaos. These people work without pay. Well that and part of the government was funded

It is of due regret for causing panic that I have mistaken the lapse for 24 hours early. Formatting problems with the day “midnight” falls on has led me to this. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

I think we actually had a thread on whether noon is 12:00 PM or AM and the same for midnight. Many people get confused. Don't worry about it. *summons Guards* Take him away.

We already had one. Feel free to look for it. At least, I think we had a thread. Whatever. It's simple. 12 AM is midnight, 12 PM is noon.

Here is to hoping Trump kills it. The Democrats put in an extension for the Patriot Act data collection. A short shut down is worth killing an 18 year nightmare. What a totally sane decision to keep such powers in the hands of an admitted very stable genius.

Ah, surely people will still be angry over the “oh so vital” government shutting down.

Even if there are deplorable parts of it that need to be shut down.

Goodness, is it that time of the year already?

This is becoming the new normal under our insanely divided representation. Hell, Trump will probably let the government shut down because he's butthurt over this impeachment thing.

These shutdowns are utterly absurd. There is no good reason to close national parks and other services. It's not like money ceases to exist when a mew budget is a few days late.
