35 year old Gabriel Boric continues to lead in the polls in Chile and appears to the frontrunner and likely next president at this point. The runoff appears seems like its going to come down to him and far right candidate J. A Kast. If I was in Chile i'd definitely vote for Boric.

currently first in line is Arthur Lira, President of the Chamber of Deputies, while the office of the VP would remain open 'till the next election

After what they did to Nicaragua by backing the Somozas, invading in 1934, and supporting the contra fascists, the whole US Government should sit the fuck down on this one.

Given El Salvador's obsession with keeping toxic masculinity the policy of the state, I'm not surprised.

Toxic masculinity is a myth, one that ignores the necessity of hard men produced by hard times.

The remaining 1/3rd is criminal anarchy.

Plus many of his concepts are a confused mess. He wants to improve living standards and education but his approach has led to to infrastructure declining, plus his inability to confront the teachers union means he cannot actually make any education reforms.

In his defense I think he means well, compared to the many of us predecessors who were straight crooks.
But he is clearly not up to the task. He means well, but a lot of his ideas are contradictory and bad, and his “hugs not bullets” has seen more even more bullets flying.

What he is doing is just not working very well.

Very CIA of you.

Well, that's generally the narrative that they have about any kind of leftist leaders. They're either dictators or hopeless idealists. They can never be allowed to be seen as any kind of real leadership material. That's reserved for the West's neoliberal puppets, not socialists and communists that they want to depose or murder, such as Allende or Ortega.

The CIA no doubt already has that in the pipeline. Undermine, sabotage economy, stage coup. Worked against Ortega (for a time) and Allende. Hasn't yet worked on Maduro, but not for lack of trying.

It's honestly a crime against humanity, too, against the Cuban people, against human decency, and for what, the justified expropriation of Cuban land stolen by foreign absentee landlords ages back? Seriously, folks!

Nicaragua's election was today

Yes, it's mostly a lamentation article, but it's appropriate given how Ortega's abandoned democracy in favour of Caracas Communism.

So the Saudi and Egypt firm dictatorship are all fine, Colombia murdering hundred of unionists or environmentalists a year is all fine, Ecuador having a "president" elected in violation of the law and who wage judicial guerilla against the biggest political force in the country is all fine, but Venezuela and Nicaragua need sanctions upon sanctions, for much more minor offenses ? Knowing perfectly well that those "sanctions" only harm the common citizen and actually give cover for the governments for their most authoritarian tendencies ? What a sick, disgusting, outrageous double-standard and imperialism !

The media and the two major political parties in the U.S. are pretty much owned by the rich and the big corporations, so of course they support terrible capitalist and imperialist foreign policy. I really do hate this oligarchic country I was born in sometimes.
