Macri just got unelected. And Bolsonaro might soon be thrown out of office only to be replaced by a ultra-right hardliner vice-president who looks like a mix of General Bison and Manuel Noriega on steroids.

That's where anti-democratic regimes go wrong. If you're going to allow elections in the first place, don't fix them so you win by a huge amount. Nothing attracts international attention like a lopsided election. Make it look real, 53% to 47%, somewhere in that neighborhood. Mix it up a little. Slip some of your people into the opposition parties, then let one of them get elected. When they turn out to be a do-nothing, you win the next one. If there's a term limit in place, get your family elected. There are so many ways to do this that don't look like you're fixing the election.
