Going for environmental science, its what I wanted I've wanted to do for years and I've just been wasting time trying to please my family with something more professional.
Cool, fwiw it took me a while to figure out a decent career path, so dont sweat not having it nailed down now
Boy #2 is off to the gallopogus islands as part of an environmental sciences course, next month. I am insanely jealous.

You go instead and tell him you'll take real good notes.

Ah shit, I'm insanely jealous too.
I was planning on maybe going back to UNCA but stepping back an assessing my options I think I might try to end up at Western Carolina University. UNCA is 14,000 a year - WNC is a bigger uni and supposedly better but most importantly its more affordable. It was one of three public universities that the state set tuition at $500 a semester a couple years back. So after other required fees, it'd be about 4,000 a year.

That's a lot better. Where will you live?

Buy him a copy of Galapagos by Kurt Vonnegut before you go as a consolation gift. He won't get any environmental science knowledge from it but its Vonnegut, he'll be entertained and he'll still learn something.
I read Vonnegut. if its not star wars, or have something to do with animal sciences, he is not interested.

I'd have to find an apartment. Got a few options in that area.
Cullowhee - where WCU is - has a couple dozen apartment complexes that are specifically college student tailored. Sylvia a few minutes away has similar apartments and generic apartments as well. I was looking at rental prices the other day even though I probably won't be moving there for another year or year and a half and the cheapest apartments were about half an hour away from the college in Waynesville, NC.
I'd love to just live in Asheville but wouldn't want to make two one-hour commutes a day to get to classes. Can always move to Asheville after.

Darn, gotta expand his horizons. Vonnegut is a good sell. I was just talking to somebody on Twitter the other day because I mentioned I hadn't read any Vonnegut in a while (half a year maybe) and I need my fix. Coincidentally he had just picked up Sirens of Titan and started rereading it minutes before I made my statement and he'd handed his wife Slaughterhouse-Five because she'd never read it.

I know why (besides they would never want a fuckup (with pharmaceutical, laboratory, first aid, and vaccination (and C1 level French and Spanish language skill) skills but not "experience" or any certification...) me) (And the metro networks I've worked on designing for Kinshasa, Dar, Luanda, Kampala, at least) but like it's one of the few valid things there are to do. 9 months abroad 3 months home seems okay.
But like I'm not ready for that? But nothing else seems valid...

I'm confused at the relevance? Maybe it's cause I've had a drink tonight or I'm just some stupid fucking idiot and should shut my mouth already. The Holy Therns wrote:Macramé's nice.Auremena wrote:Dunno why I've not gone and done MSF or something...

Also cooking. Cooking's a particularly motivating thing at least for me.
Jobs are for dough. Hobbies and political engagement are for meaning.
