Sandmann has donated 10 million dollars to a Trump affiliated Super PAC.

He may have just had the money. It is really hard to tell source of funds with private individuals.

In fact, it is clear that the motion did not disclosed the terms of the settlement.

STIPULATION OF DISMISSAL WITH PREJUDICE

Pursuant to Rule 41(a)(1)(A)(ii) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, it is hereby STIPULATED AND AGREED by and between the parties that the Complaint in this matter should be, and hereby is, dismissed with prejudice, with each side to bear its own costs.

Judges do review settlements, and can reject them.

The main rule is that parties to a lawsuit are free to settle and are not required to seek and obtain judicial approval of their settlement.

There are some exceptions to this rule regarding bankruptcy proceedings, settlements of a class action suits, criminal plea agreements, antitrust consent decrees, and cases involving a party who is a minor. The only exception which would be relevant here is when a settlement involves a party who is a minor, and Sandmann himself made a big deal about entering into this settlement the day he turned 18, no longer a minor and with any such exception thus no longer applicable.

Only in very limited circumstances will a judge reject the settlement. The only reason here is a minor is involved. However the settlement was made the day he turned 18. My guess is the settlement was on the table and the parties were happy to sign it once he turned 18.

The theme of this coverage should have been: “With his case hanging by a rapidly unraveling thread, the Covington kid decides to call it quits.” Instead, because media has been gutted, a huge portion of people think Sandmann is on his way to becoming a billionaire

The corporate and partisan media discredited itself, time and time and time again, and is now whining about how it's been gutted. That's like a football player talking a lot of smack, and then wondering why people are hitting him harder. It's all their fault! Said media's self-victimization, and its supporters' chants, those who are pretending that the bullshitters are the victims, is truly hilarious to watch.

i like how your takeaway is basically the opposite of what the thread i linked to said, just because you can't resist piling on the inadequacies of legal reporting from journalists covering sandmann

The case was confidentially settled, so at best, we have guesses, not facts, although presenting guesswork as facts is par for the course of the "journalism" that you're trying to defend. My criticism was that the media was whining about people not listening to them, after they were repeatedly caught lying, not in the case of Sandman, where all we have is guesswork, but in numerous other cases, where they were repeatedly contradicted by actual facts, and yet continued to lie through their teeth. Still waiting to be greeted as liberators...

This is the very same media that bleats about the budget deficit, until we need trillions to restore the stock market, or billions to bomb yet another country, but when it comes to healthcare, oh no, can't have that, because of the budget deficit, which magically vanishes, as needed by the media's owners. I'm still trying to figure out the mental gymnastics that they've engaged in to justify millions of dollars in recovery funds to cities where peaceful protests took place...

Settlement was $25K. Sandmann’s lawyer Lin Wood let it slip on Twitter.

Player: "Let me make a thread about responsible reporting in the media"
Mod team: "No, because people might start discussing rape, because NSG."

(Meanwhile, the thread discussing rape is left open)
