The whole FPTP system mandates tactical voting. This election isn't any different.

Indeed, but I think especially this one though, because of people being so pissed with some of the main parties that the only reason they vote for them is to keep others out.

Sinn Fein will win West Belfast again, that is guaranteed.

Hoping Alliance might be able to snap South Belfast, possibly East Belfast from the DUP as the rumour mills go.

Also the UUP is apparently, not going to be making any pacts with the DUP this time around, hopefully that cuts into the unionist vote and allows them to even try and take a seat or two from the DUP. Foyle might possibly go to the SDLP.

Given what has been happening as well as this area always having a vote split mainly between two parties, I think my constituency is too close to call. I'm going to encourage Lib Dem voters to go and vote, including family members. The difference between the two parties has been in single figures in recent years...

On the upside, having another general election gives us another opportunity to observe the ritual of Jeremy Vine being trapped in the matrix and losing his mind.

Interesting thing about North Belfast, is that SF has seen consistent growth there in essentially every election and was only 2k votes off of taking it in the last election seeing a +7.8 swing in their vote compared to a DUP -0.8.

SF could possibly unseat Nigel Dodds which would be fucking hilarious. It would also be the first time a nationalist MP has taken Belfast North.

It's kinda similar in Scotland. There are a few strongholds against the SNP here and there, but they seem to get less and less each time.

I will be voting for the Tories as my MP has a majority of just 31, but I would like to vote for the Brexit Party.

I don't understand what Labour is doing -- trying to gerrymander an election by dumping kids and non-citizens into the poll; are they really giving themselves a good look to their northern Brexit voters? I don't think so.

Allowing people to vote is not gerrymandering.

That's not what gerrymandering is. And non-citizens are always able to vote in your elections.

It is. Manipulating a result that is unequivocally in your favour.

That's not what gerrymandering means. Gerrymandering is drawing the borders of constituencies to achieve some kind of electoral advantage.

Ifreann wrote:That's not what gerrymandering is. And non-citizens are always able to vote in your elections.

How?

The same way citizens are able to. You allow them. UK election law allows citizens of specified countries to vote in your elections. The Brexit referendum wasn't limited to British citizens either.

I wonder if Labour will join the Lib Dems in an anti-Brexit alliance. It worked in a recent by-election so Corbyn should consider it if he's serious about stopping a Tory Brexit.

What's more worrying is that the SNP could be in the position to be kingmaker, and I doubt anyone bar Labour would concede to them.

Doesn't alter my point at all, Labour is trying to expand their vote in their advantage, but probably to the detriment of their northern pro-leave voters who see their attempts to "make foreigners vote" as an abomination and a clear break of Labour's brexit & migration promises, so even more likely to vote bxp/tory than before.
