It is, dare I say, a noble discussion. At least periodically.

Of course it's not time. It's never time, not on its own. You make it time. If you're under fire in the no-man's land of WW1, you start digging a foxhole even if the ideal time would be when you *aren't* being bombarded, because once you wait for it to be 'time', other situations will need your attention, assuming you survive that long. If the fields aren't furrowed, plow them. If the iron is not hot, make it so. If society is not ready, change it.

Someone has created a thread for it as well.

I've been hammering on about this for months now, but I was interested to see most want it after Brexit rather than before. For me personally I see a general election as the way forward to delivering Brexit/ getting it repealed as the party mandates will be clearer.
But we absolutely should be getting an election sooner rather than later so the public can decide how they think their respective MP's are performing.

people think that once we technically leave the EU we will be "done with brexit" and can stop talking about it. so from this perspective it makes sense. get brexit out of the way so we can have an election on the important issues instead of more brexit crap.
they're completely wrong, of course. the brexit deal (no deal) will just be the beginning of the negotiations for our future relationship and brexit will loom over us for decades to come. but politicians who benefit from the "why haven't we left yet?!" crowd make sure to conveniently never mention it.

Which is why I'm quite personally ambivalent about the whole drama about "getting a deal" before we leave. We might get a deal now (with Boris getting closer than May, and closer than anyone thought he could), but like you said, it's not going to be the finalised relationship between the UK and the EU which isn't going to happen for another 5, 10 years down the line.Souseiseki wrote:Hirota wrote:Interesting polling showing that most Brits want an early General election.

I wish there was more in depth coverage, as it sounds like he was found guilty of being in the same place as terrorists rather than terrorism.
