Allowing people who rent more power is good. Landlords should be held accountable.

This isn't about people who live in a rented house, this is about people who stay in an Airbnb for a bit while visiting, say, the Edinburgh fringe.

AirBnB was always going to start getting regulated. I'm surprised it took this long.

Is there any proof it needs it though, or is it just the governments desire to regulate everything?

Joe Lycett successfully listed AirBnB's head offices as an available property on AirBnB so there probably needs to be some oversight.

Still gives them more power.

Councils are elected by the people.
So, the people have more power over private enterprises.

The people renting an Airbnb property are typically not ordinarily resident in the council area.

No, but they are making it safe for them.
Jeeze GVH, what's wrong with making sure people are safe and in an AirBnB that is adequate to stay in?

Because requiring properties to be safe for human habitation is bad for the rental market.

Despite being one of the main human rights?

Having to spend money on keeping the surplus population safe is bad apparently.

I mean I can't think of any other reason why the Conservatives kept blocking laws meant to require such.

Totally nothing to do with how many of them rent properties to people.

The people pushing for this aren't doing it because they feel sorry for the Airbnb guests, it's hoteliers mainly.

Well, they should still be held to the same standard for people.
They need to be in a safe and adequate environment.

I will take the plight of hoteliers over the plight of born-in-the-purple aristocrats who think they have done something deserving respect by being born out of a rich vagina.

Strange, most people renting somewhere out on Airbnb are quite a lot poorer than holiday inn.

One disgusting thing about gig economy companies is they're usually not held to the same standards as their competetion.

In other news Boris is proposing to scrap the Metric system as they are leaving the common market that made them adopt the rubbish. The big selling point is that Imperial pints had an extra ounce of beer so more bang for your buck at the pubs.

Our pubs never stopped selling imperial pints.
