Dumb Conspiracy Theories

There are some conspiracy theories which make some kind of make sense. I'm delving into whether they're true or not, but they mKe sense- e.g. Facebook's social credit score, moon landing hoax, James Hewitt is Prince Harry's father (some of these, some of these I don't). Then we get the bizzar, Elvis is alive, Paul McCartney is dead, etc. Then you get the batshit insane, makes me wonder what's the fudge is going through people's heads. These are the ones I'm talking about here. Starting with the anti-vax movement, without further ado, here we go:

Here are some of the dumbest conspiracy theories I've seen

4. Due to the shortage of archeological records between the years 614 and 911 AD, a historian has concluded that those years didn't exist. 300 years were just added to the calander, because, reasons. It's actually the 1700s

3. The hollow Earth conspiracy theory. So the Earth is hollow, and there is a hole from Antartica to the centre of the Earth which is why nobody is allowed to go to Antarctica (never mind the growing Antarctic tourism industry). Oh, and there are aliens living in the centre of the Earth. Not stupid enough of a conspiracy theory for you? Well don't worry, it gets stupider. Hitler never comitted suicide, he went through an escape tunnel to Antarctica where he jumped into the hole to the centre of the Earth so he could live amongst the aliens

2. The moon is a hologram. The moon is a hologram so that governments can work on it without the public knowing. I don't know how they explain the various mentions of the full moon in the Bible, Quaran, other religious texts and the moon gods throughout history.

But out of all the stupid conspiracy theories, this one has got to take the cake. And the fact that a government just makes it that much worse

1. When sharks killed tourists in Egypt in 2010, some Egyptians concluded that these sharks were bionic sharks guided by Israel to scare torusits out of visiting Egypt. Apparently Egyptian divers found GPS trackers in the shark. The worst part of this is that the Egyptian government has failed to rule that out. Seriously, Egypt's government has actually entertained that Israel has nothing better to do than to weapons sharks and kill civilans. Smh. Newsflash, if they hated you enough to kill foreign civilains in your territory, they wouldn't have voluntarily given you the Sinai Peninsula. Smh

Anyways, in my opinion, these are the dumbest conspiracy theories in existence. Discuss...

The anti-vaxxer movement doesn't make sense at all, stop granting it more credibility than it actually has.

The anti-vax conspiracy is the dumbest theory out there.

It's not only based on flawed science, it is actively harmful to other people.

Yup. The research by that wanker Andrew Wakefield has been thoroughly discredited by numerous independent studies.

The anti-vax conspiracy is one of the dumbest of the lot. Do not include it in a list of conspiracy theories that are plausible. Same goes for the moon landing one, which in many ways is near the bottom of the barrel.

Far as I'm concerned, the dumbest conspiracy theory I've ever seen is the one saying the Holocaust didn't happen. Like, bro, I've met people who were there. I've visited some of those camps. It definitely happened. What kind of giant operation would you have to be running to convince tens of thousands of children to pretend some truly screwed up shite happened to them- and to continue to do so well into their 90s. It's so massively dumb, and massively overestimates how good at being secret large operations are.

It's worse because I know how good at sussing things out journalists are. A sneeze can't happen in Downing Street without some of my friends hearing about it within the day- and you think the government can keep something as giant as a fake moon landings or holocaust *without* someone, somewhere, spilling all of the beans out? You don't think a single journalist wouldn't be able, for decades, to come across a single shred of solid evidence to unravel the whole thing?

Or even that the Nazis begging for their lives at Nuremburg wouldn't have brought up something like that in their defences? Why resort to the "I'm just following orders" argument when you could just say "you're lying, I didn't do anything"?!

It and every other conspiracy that requires giant operations with 10s of thousands of people. Simultaneously seem to operate on the assumption that the people in on it are way smarter, committed and competent than they are, and that everyone outside it is much dumber than they really are.

That said, the missing 300 years thing is precious, and I wish I knew about that batshit insane conspiracy theory sooner.

President Trump is part of a mass hallucination caused by aliens pumping six-dimensional psychoactive gas into the atmosphere. It is still actually 2012.

For these reasons, I'd rate the anti-vax theory far above believing Elvis is alive or that Queen Elizabeth II is a lizard-person on the conspiracy theory scale.

At least believing Elvis is alive doesn't risk harming a huge number of other people.

Ditto, believing the earth is flat is up there too. It doesn't harm anyone physically, but teaching it to children severely damages their educational prospects and chances for the future (if they continue to believe it)

A French traveler returned from the East in the 1900s, from the Buddhists he found an underground world where Shangri-La exists. This secret world is where the treasure of Genghis and of the ages was kept. Undying Buddhas who had achieved enlightenment were the only ones allowed in. In the late 1910s, a Polish refugee traveling to Tibet was invited to see this world and wrote about the true path in Europe. Those white Russians who would escape Bolshevism would also write of this world and their desire to get in. It is said the Mad Baron himself visited it, and that is why he was immune to bullets. Unfortunately, the Germans found out about this and discovered a passage way through the Antarctic. They ascended to the final form, and that is why the world has gone awry. The Jews now must fight the Germans on the astral plane for control of the world.

Conspiracy I was told by a Portuguese expat while I was abroad.

I hope I don't get disappeared for this tbh :^)

Congratulations. That premise has just been greenlit for a Netflix Original Series. You have a budget of $35 million and a deadline of three and a half months. Good luck.

The joke is on you, I have been living underground in a seven-dimensional bunker all my life, so I am the only one that can clearly discern that Reagan is actually still President. I know that because he and Nancy live here with me.

The conspiracy theory that the school shooter victims are actors, and the shootings are staged by a government in an attempt to ban guns (or other agendas such as home schooling).

The CTs (Conspiracy Theorists) for this one would go as far as to harass, stalk, doxx, death threat, anything as heinous as they can to make the victims' lives hell.

Multiple sources:

(There are many more, but this is after a quickie Google search).

-----

From Reddit's AMA on one of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Shooting's victims. Source.
I encountered a false-flag conspiracy theorist yesterday on some other subreddit. He believes all thousand+ students at the school are actors, as well as the parents. He doesn't think anyone actually died, and that the agenda being pushed is the fucking HOME SCHOOL AGENDA. I'm not going to link the comment, but you can very easily find it in my comment history

How do we engage these people? Is it better to just leave them be??

-----

As for what I think? I absolutely am appalled. I want to laugh that some CTs think that every single event around is a conspiracy theory. If you want to believe that school shootings are staged, go for it. I will still laugh at your idea and your thoughts. But going as far as harassing and threatening the victims is the lowest of the low.

It's the Petrine Cross; really, the folks who try to use the symbol in an anti-Christian manner instead express their ignorance of early church history.

The entirety of Young Earth Creationism, from denial of well proven dating methods, to complete misunderstandings of evolutionary biology (example being the (in)famous crocoduck which was supposed to have been a mixture of Crocodiles and Ducks because if evolution truly existed then anything could evolve (ignoring natural selection and the fact that Crocodilians and Dinosaurs represent two parts of the Archosaurs, so while they do share a common ancestor they aren't going to just suddenly develop the same genetic code as the other one did i.e. an exact crocodile head on the duck, you're more likely to see toothed birds in the fossil record that could be considered 'crocoducks' though, considering birds did evolve from the toothed theropod Dinosaurs)) to believing the craters on the moon were created by floodwater erupting from Earth after the Biblical flood. Creationists have all the insanity and more in their insane cult. Of course, this is probably for insane political theories, but the damage the creationists wish to cause against evolutionary biology should probably be considered and anti-scientific genocide against the fields of science which have developed thanks to their use of the scientific method of constant research.

Ken Ham and his followers are truly some of the most bizarre conspiracists of the 21st century. Now I'm waiting for creationists to charge me and try and murder me in this thread. Here we go.
