Hey, it's only savage if I threaten the idea of Tacoma! I'm too civilized for that.

though out of interest, if individual people can only donate 500, what loophole did the Plutarchs put in place for Amazon to use?

Bought thousands of people?

I doubt Jeff Bezos is healthy food.

Hmm, good point.

It would be better if you moved into a Toyota Tacoma.

Haha, degrading other Washington cities. A Seattleite’s favourite pastime.

I’m actually fine with Tacoma and Bellingham, I’ve actually thought about moving to Bellingham more than once. It’s Kent I don’t like.

Oh, and everything east of the Cascades. But that’s basically Idaho at that point, so...

Ran the ads as a PAC rather than donating to an individual candidate.

Yeah. That’s a big loophole.

Yeah. That’s a big loophole.

Its the 1st Amendment not a loop hole. Me and other 1%ers have the right to buy up all the ad time every election so we win.

Yet more proof if any were needed that the US is an oligarchy, not a democracy.

I’m keeping this one in my “late-stage capitalism” collection.

Its how free speech works a corner stone of democracy.

Sure just as long as your fine with paying a $2 tax on every $1 you spend

Do you think it is easier or harder now to dominate a message now or back 100 years ago when towns had maybe 2 news papers for news ?

My Superpac luckily got that tax repealed. Now my Super PAC donations are tax deductible.

Anyway, we’ve established that this is a problem. Now what should be done about it?

Nationalize Amazon. Arrest the corporate leaders. Ban corporations from funding campaigns

Unfortunately, Amazon's super PAC convinced congress and the President that you should be arrested instead. Your assets will be given to Bezos so he can burn them in front of you before you are sentenced to a lifetime of work selling Amazon Prime subscriptions. I am sorry but your last chance to prevent this was a decade ago.

This isnt new. Hell if you think a million is a lot just look at how much they will spend fighting unions.

Yeah, it’s nothing new, I know. I made this thread because my city is now at risk of becoming a company town and I’m pretty stressed out about it. Maybe it won’t make that much of a difference, but I already don’t trust Amazon and I don’t want them making my laws and controlling my city.

Way easier. You can count the number of major news sources in the United States on one hand, two if you stretch the definition of "major".

Yeah this kind of shit is not something we should not want in a democracy. Companies only concerned with making money is not who we want influencing our government.

You sure you're talking about the United States here? We've been bending over backwards to turn into a plutocracy since the 1980s at least.

Yeah, Donald Trump in control of Amazon would be so much better than Jeff Bezos.
