Heh, New Jersey speaks for itself. I project the Lightning as potential SC winners. They're shaky now, but I attribute that to the depth and talent of their roster. Once they get a feel for their lines and find their identity, I think they're a complete team that will be a puck possession specialist down the stretch.

Sabres win 4-0 over the stars and rookie Victor Olofssen set an NHL by scoring his first 7 goals on the powerplay... so this is what it feels like to have a real team again.

A plane had to make an emergency landing there and they revealed the new name for a reservoir.

Oh, wait, you mean the other Jersey. Yeah, they're either giving us a hint of what to expect during the season or they're making sure everyone lets their guard down before absolutely dominating the Eastern Conference come January. On the upside for any Devils fans here, at least it's 0-4-2 and not 0-6-0.

Considering their massive chokejob last season, I have severe doubts that they will. Unless they buckle down and concentrate on each game as if it was a playoff game, try and avoid playing down to their competition and anything else they need to do to make up for that dismal sweep, I've got no real faith in them.

As for my picks? I'd say the Sharks simply because we've had two Legacies of Failure broken in a row now (first Caps then Blues) so it won't be too much of a surprise if San Jose finally lift the Stanley Cup? As for serious guesses? Not entirely sure but I'm not ruling out Carolina, Boston or Vegas. Then again, we've got plenty of months to find out how wrong I am.

Nope, just homerism and a hot take. Just wait for mid-season...you'll see.

It’s not mid season that’s the problem, it’s the first round of the playoffs

It's a new year. I'm not going to ignore talent because of a sweep. They'll either change or they won't, either way projections are based on an analysis of potential, so I'm comfortable with mine, regardless.

They could win 82 games and it'd still be a safer bet to pick the other team.

Well, the Sharks got Patrick Marleau back. But also we've been pretty sucky thus far in the season. Gotta hope that changes.

If the Lightning don't get swept by a mere wild-card them, then yes, they can be in the conversation for potential cup winners.

A six game win streak brings the Sharks back to the .500 mark. Now I just have to hope and pray that this success is sustainable and they can claw back in among the postseason contenders.

They're just plain wrong. The article claims that the Ducks are "bad at tanking". This is not true; they're actually quite good at it.
