Agreed.

So can we talk about what can be considered human rights in an appropriate thread?

Yeah, that's what I mean.
What would things have been like if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive? Or if during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? The Organs would quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!

Bill Weld beat Donald Trump in the Iowa Caucuses!

Oops, I mean Bill Weld beat Joe Walsh in the Iowa Caucuses. No that doesn't earn an exclamation mark. 1.3% > 1.2%

I like him too. But he's not president tier. Should have gone for the house/senate after being governor. This is a big issue libertarians have. They're obsessed with presidency runs and ignore the legislature dispite the opportunity to act as kingmakers.

Aside from his health care ideas, Bill Weld sounds like a good president.

Would rather have him then Trump at the very least.

Ohhhhhhh. Yea I remember a few like you. Luckily for them the judge was understanding and let them go.

So apparently there is a video of the POTUS goofing around, talking to people, and mock-conducting a band during the National Anthem at an event.

I am certain the Republicans and his supporters will be just as outraged at this as they were at Kaepernick, and demand he be fired for such blatant disrespect for the troops.

Pfffft. That was just the bone spurs acting up.

It's the Cult of Trump. He could do everything they bitched about Kaepernick and Obama supposedly doing during the Anthem on video and they'd contort into human Twizzlers trying to come up with an apologistic excuse for him.

Trump can do no wrong. I am convinced at this point he's likely getting reelection unless there is a recession.

The spineless GOP copped out of conducting impeachment with due diligence by claiming it's up to voters to decide if he needs to be removed. In the event he gets reelected that validates an imperial presidency (which only applies to Republicans of course) and Trump will feel entitled to be capricious and corrupt without consequences to himself in the open. Because the GOP said IT DOESN'T MATTER IF TRUMP COMMITTED CORRUPTION AND IT CAN BE PROVEN. [/therock]

They didn’t embrace him. He owns them. They are in his hand. He squeezes and they squeal.

That’s one thing that is actually impressive. I can’t think of another President in my life time who owns his party to that extent....

His history of conning and stiffing common people is out in the open, yet they still support him like he's Sanders.

If you support a con artist with a history of conning and stiffing common people solely on the terror that Democrats are comin' fer yer gunz you forfeit the right to act shocked and outraged when it turns out something he did screwed you over.

Verifiably false, he can always nominate Merrick Garland to SCOTUS.

If by 'better for them' you mean better for the Democrats. Then yes. The Republicans needed to change. They did.

The fact that Democrats see this as cultishness will always confuse me.

Not even a sunk cost Fallacy. That would be like if Trump was losing and they kept nominating his because "well we've invested so much into his brand"

Yes, because a centrist who has actively avoided making sweeping changes in policy from the bench would be the worst thign in the world. People act like he is some sort of hyper leftist. He is, at best, just left of center and is well regarded by legal professionals for being so damn boring in his opinions.

There is no denying the Cult of Trump in his base. They damn near worship the ground he walks on, and actively turn a blind eye to him doing the opposite to most things they *say* they believe.

It's almost like his supporters don't believe the shit they throw at the Democrats at all.
