The whole 'Green New Deal' is as much anti-science as Trump's shit, just on the other end of the spectrum.

The total rejection of nuclear is nonsensical, it is the cleanest, cheapest, and least environmentally destructive option to produce power, and yet they pass it over.

It's never too late for a nuclear democide, anon, and it'll be a lot faster than letting people starve because we've destroyed our energy infrastructure and economies.

Sensationalizing them to push lackluster policy that's arguably more harmful to the environment in the long-term definitely isn't.

They would be if instead of mass hysteria and recommissioning East German coal plants built in 1970 the human species took these as lessons learnt opportunities.

I'd say it's arguably both. We're passing up a pretty decent form of short-term energy when we pass up nuclear. That said, most froms of energy do have some ecological impact, even solar panels, hydroelectric, and wind farms. We really need to be striving for technological improvement that emphasizes efficiency and minimalizing our ecological foot print more generally. Even once we replace petroleum and natural gas, we've still got a lot to do.

No; it’s not anti-science. It was driven by the belief they were not safe. As in the business side couldn’t keep them safe.

If that incident had not happened; there would be more of them now. The incidents since then; only re-enforcement of that belief. Add in the disposal of spent rods; nothing wrong with that. Just not in my back yard.

What the nuclear industry needs is to present fusion reactors here.

The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The second best time is today. Saying "we have no time!!" is also an especially stupid attitude when we already have nuclear plants. People just want them to shut down. Like in Germany.

Typical scare tactics, pointing to accidents and mistakes.
Three Mile Island was caused by a mix of mechanical failures and human error, and Fukushima was on a fault line, near the coast, with its backup generator in its basement.

Instead of whipping up great panic over nuclear power plants, we should learn from mistakes, which we have, and work harder to minimize the chance and impact of mechanical failures, which we also have.

It also had an inadequate sea wall and was sited lower in meters above sea level because "that big a wave cannot exist and we need muh profits".
It is interesting to draw comparison between Onagawa and Fukushima. The former was sited closer to the 2011 quake source, but was located higher up and had a higher sea wall.
And now I quote:
Following the tsunami, two to three hundred residents of the town who lost their homes to the tsunami took refuge in the Onagawa nuclear plant's gymnasium, as the reactor complex was the only safe area in the vicinity to evacuate to, with the reactor operators supplying food and blankets to the needy.

Fukushima is not a lesson in how dangerous nuclear power is. Fukushima is a lesson in how disastrous it can be generating profit by cutting down on safety measures.

We have limited resources to build power infrastructure, and if we want to avert global warming we have to pool it into solar, wind, hydro... things that can be built tomorrow.

Sure, build nuclear. It’s great. Enormous amounts of clean power. But it takes 20+ years to get them up and running, so we are going to have to do something in the meantime, and that’s the GND.

Source on that 20+ years figure? Most information I've seen suggests it's 4-6 years for modern plants, assuming nothing goes particularly wrong during construction. This is actually comparable to the time needed to build a hydroelectric farm, and not too much longer than for solar or wind farms, which usually take well over a year, usually more, to completely construct.

Also, the GND isn't just about not building new nuclear power plants, but about shutting down existing ones.

As someone who grew up in a community with a nuclear power plant, please build more nuclear power plants. Low property taxes are amazing, they are absolutely fantastic sources of jobs (was actually the largest employer in my town for decades), and my water didn't taste any worse than any other community.
I still don't really understand why so many are opposed to them. They're safe, they provide boatloads of power, and they do way more for the economy than wind or solar.
The details of the above post are subject to leftist infighting.

I officially endorse Fivey Fox for president of the United States.

Problem is we live in a world where people think solar farms render photosynthesis impossible in a given area by sucking up all the sunlight.

And this is not hyperbole.
