There are several notable factors:

- Poor training.
- An armed society naturally leading to escalated responses.
- A culture of fear and pervasive prejudice.
- Police impunity.
- Lack of mental healthcare, in addition to a stigma around seeking treatment. (

Mix all of these together, and you get a disastrous brew with one factor feeding into others making it a bad downward spiral. For example, few mentally ill people actually commit violent crime, but a few does. This may lead to prejudice against mentally ill people, which in turn may lead to escalated responses when the police recieve reports about a mentally ill person with a gun.

The lack of mental healthcare and stigma surrounding seeking treatment also has a direct effect on police officers. It can be a stresssful and even traumatic job, and if you can't or won't get help if and when you need it...

Minority suspects are typically shot by minority officers. To say the police are "freakin ss officers in disguise" is to severely misunderstand the issue and it's part of why it's so difficult to solve.

Another killing of an innocent person in their own home by a cop, we can only hope this one will be convicted as well. I'd like to think that if several cops are convicted in high profile cases, maybe police will be more hesitant to pull the trigger.
