Actually, yeah, this was a fairly tame and peaceful protest. Based on what I’ve read about the author, I can understand why a protest happened even if I disagree with book burning on principle.

I find that doubtful, especially since most "examinations" of white privilege are anything but polite and nuanced.
In my experience, "examinations" of white privilege tend to derail into diatribes about the evils of the white man. Not always, but there's a good tendency.

Blaming one's problems on race only makes sense if the law itself discriminates against different races. Since it hasn't in over fifty years, racism and race-based anything should be a thing of the past. The only reason that it isn't is because people who probably weren't even alive when the law enshrined racism wish to keep bringing it up. As a white person, I don't bloody care whether or not white people are in positions of power. This "us vs. them" mentality is ridiculous. They can't be assed to work for a living like the rest of us, so they have to resort to insinuating white people are somehow favored above non-white people and that no white person in America has ever earned their wealth/position through merit and hard work. They go "you didn't earn that" because they lack the willpower and motivation to earn that very thing for themselves, but instead of discovering a work ethic they'd rather just blame someone else for their problems.
