This is basically a masterclass on how to protest on campus and not to be a dick. Book burning is associated with anti-intellectuals, authoritarians, and other assholes because when you round up a bunch of books and set them on fire to prevent the ideas inside from spreading it's generally an anti-speech thing. This looks like they took one copy of one book they didn't like and burned it on a grill. This was more of a "fuck your book" than a "fuck the spread of ideas" and I see no issue with that.

Nobody, nobody, gives a shit that she is a "Latina Author", what a dishonest title.

"Like all white people are privileged and racist."
Another student said the audience reacted when the author stated that most white people "needed to be removed from authority positions because two-thirds of people in high positions should not be white."
It sounds like she's a racist cunt and that's why they burned her book. Nobody cares what race she is.

Based on how I've seen reactionaries respond to even the most polite and nuanced examinations of white privilege, I am almost certain these students completely missed the point and twisted her words.

Still ill advised to burn the book, but I'd damn sure be demanding that she never be invited back to campus and her books removed from any and all classes.

See that's insane to me. You're objecting to the symbolic act of burning a book but supporting an actual effort to extirpate knowledge and discussion.

It doesn't sound like she brings much to the table except for her racism, though. At least, not anything one can't get from a dozen other authors.
Keep the concept, change the author.

That's the thing, though. The concept itself is racist by default. "White Privilege" is a myth invented by lazy racists to justify their lazy racism. They can't be assed to work for a living like the rest of us, so they have to resort to insinuating white people are somehow favored above non-white people and that no white person in America has ever earned their wealth/position through merit and hard work. It's bullshit and it's untrue. They go "you didn't earn that" because they lack the willpower and motivation to earn that very thing for themselves, but instead of discovering a work ethic they'd rather just blame someone else for their problems. Then the idea gains traction with people who don't know better and believe it, causing garbage like this author and her shitty book to become a thing.
