Uganda to reinstate death penalty for Homosexuality

After their last attempt was thrown out 5 years ago due to procedural technicalities, Uganda is trying again to make homosexuality a capital crime. However, homosexual acts are already criminalized in Uganda. This new law, which is expected to pass, would not only make it punishable by death, it would also make education on homosexuality illegal: "Homosexuality is not natural to Ugandans, but there has been a massive recruitment by gay people in schools, and especially among the youth, where they are promoting the falsehood that people are born like that," Ethics and Integrity Minister Simon Lokodo told the Thomson Reuters Foundation.
"Our current penal law is limited. It only criminalises the act. We want it made clear that anyone who is even involved in promotion and recruitment has to be criminalised. Those that do grave acts will be given the death sentence."

So…NSG, where do we go from here?

They're clearly hiding something. Something they do not wish to share.

We must thrust deeper, to learn what really makes the brown heart of Africa tick. Let us find the end of the rainbow across Lake Victoria, where a butt of gold awaits the patient explorer of Uganda's nether regions.

Nowhere because that would be culturally intolerant of us westerners.

Well, that.

And the fact that the online forum of a nation role-playing game is unlikely to have a big impact on Ugandan domestic policy.

Respond by making being Christian punishable by death. Fair is fair.

The Laws come from old British Laws from back during Empire and the evangelising of Homophobic Americans.

What does Christianity have to do with this? It's a government imposing the law; not a church.

LGBT DP 2: Eat Da Poo Poo Boogaloo

This is why Evangelical groups need to be scrutinized and if necessary, stripped of tax exemption.

It'll be a surprise if this thread makes it to page 2 before someone unironically downplays or even defends this by bringing up Islamic majority countries.

Good grief. You'd support the People's Democratic Republic of Korea.

Go back to making inane hypothetical moral dilemma exercises.

Thanks a lot! Now I've got that song in my head. :p

No. The President has effectively made himself "President for Life". That's not democracy.

As for this, I hope Uganda faces significant pressure from international organisations if it does go through with the Bill (as was threatened in 2014). What concerns me is how so many of the international governments that threatened boycotts and sanctions have changed since then...

A government motivated by evangelical christianity. They are pretty open on why they want to kill da gayz: it is because Jesus wants them to.

So.....it suddenly has no right to exist because things like these? Pardon me Neko, but that's stupid, even if I disagree with the reinstatement of that law there.

No the largest denomination is Roman Catholic, the Second largest is Anglican. Evangelicals only make up 10%.

An old article that shows the roots of Uganda's push to make homosecuality a capital crime:

Uganda's New Anti-Homosexuality Law Was Inspired by American Activists

Something newer:

Evangelical groups and activists pushed for the gay death penalty in Uganda.

Pfft, Evangelicals are a heavy part of Trump's base, they'll get coddled just like him.
