There's a lot of ignorant people in America and really almost everywhere on earth. If we can tolerate Christians despite some being hate mongers, then we can tolerate Muslims as well.

In the end it isn't about what someone believes so much as what they do. I don't like Christianity but I wouldn't support silencing christians. I do support stopping Christians from committing violence toward other people though, because we can have a free marketplace of ideas but not terror and murder

Should always be remembered that the greater rights and freedoms in the west for women and gays and such aren't because of the supposed enlightened' superiority of Christianity, but because in the West the secularists won and the religious types aren't allowed to do all the the awful shit they would otherwise love to in God's name.

And it's no coincidence that the kind of people who love to blubber about the supposed superiority of Christianity are the same ones screeching about how having to tolerate the existence of gays and women with opinions makes them the victims of religious persecution.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

You realize most Christians don't fall into this category, right? You realize that most Americans are Christian, including those who supported secularism, gay rights, civil rights, etc.? You do realize this is also true for most other 'tolerant' countries in the West, right? That they have Christian majorities that welcome and openly support gays, minorities, women, the disabled, foreigners, etc.? You realize that these so-called "Christians" who preach hate, bigotry, ignorance, hypocrisy, and intolerance are in fact an incredibly small and inconsequential minority in most countries with Christian majorities?

Ah, no, of course you don't. Because that ruins the "relijun iz baaad guis" narrative you want spin. You might find this surprising, but secularism wouldn't have gotten anywhere if religious people didn't realize that secularism was a good thing. There was no secret revolution where Atheists suddenly usurped power from rabid zealots and forced us all to be nice to each other, despite what you might think. No, what happened was religious people realized that separating church and state was best for both institutions and that the fundamental principles of Christianity are not compatible with bigotry.

Shocking, I know.

The major evangelical organizations from the ole USA are all down there urging local politicians to pass such laws. And of course, they will claim freedumb freedom of religion when you question it.

Even the propaganda is the same as that of US evangelicals 30 years ago. I saw a news article about some group in South Korea also using the old US evangelical "gay is evil/recruiting/AIDS" claims. Probably using old leaflets that US evangelicals discarded at that time (but still believe).

It wasn't true then, it isn't true now.

Religion isn't the cause of all problems, but throughout the centuries has been the #1 cause of death (murder by religionist) apart from "natural causes".

Uhm.

I guess the Ugandan top-jobs like it more than not killing people for some popularity. Maybe a lovely smear campaign accusing said top-jobs of being gay, coupled with deepfake videos all over the internet? I guess that will make them think again.

Why would they care about being a Chinese colony compared to a Western one? China isn't going to give a shit and Chinese money is as good as western money these days. Face facts, the only way human rights are getting enforced is at the barrel of a gun.

It's even better if the gun is held by another Ugandan. These days, if a European says "human rights are being violated" the standard answer is "shuddup ya neocolonialist".

The West is in a better state than the Islamic world because #1 we don't take Christianity seriously any more except in america and #2 because when the enlightenment happened, a foreign power didn't go around overthrowing secularists and giving guns to fundamentalists

I mean it does in the old testament though and many Christians believe they must follow both the old and new testament except in cases where Jesus said "nah, get rid of that law, God changed his mind." Since nothing was said about gays, I'm gonna assume that the bible kept the punishment for gays in place

it still says they're going to hell so as far as I'm concerned, it isn't much better if you say "I won't kill you but God won't you save you either."

Muslim countries make being gay punishable by death as well, not sure why anyone is not saying being Muslim should be punishable by death. It’s been clear for decades that Uganda is massively corrupt and only uses Christianity as a front to get rid of people who could undermine their regime. Your intolerance for Christians over all else really doesn’t shine a good light on you, when it’s clear that gays are being attacked in a lot of other countries as well beside this one. What Uganda is doing is wrong, but instead of attacking the government which has buried itself in attacks on its own people, you’ve gotta feed your own bigotry and hate of Christians. Pretty sure asking for others to be killed, anyway, does literally nothing to solve the problem and only causes for more violence. Outstanding move. Do you want for ISIS to keep bombing Christian churches as well? After all, they’ve made being Christian punishable by death already. Spreading more bigotry does not make bigotry go away.

Pretty sure the Apostles were never having big, grand orgies, and Jesus never took a wife, but okay. Admittedly, a lot of cults DO operate on the premise of getting sex and money, and even weapons (like David Koresh or Jim Jones), but Christ never called for or asked for any of those things.

Not really, there where Christian groups claiming the bible support them, in America, who wanted to have gays killed. Whether you think the bible does or does not support them is irrelevant to whether Christian are in fact supporting said policies, and push said policies abroad since they cannot achieve them at home.

It’s really horrible, and they’re using the issue to prevent actual charity work from being done in countries that desperately need it. Uganda’s people are dying already and the Christians who have the power to do something are instead advocating death. It is heartbreaking.
