I think you're confusing dates. The Duma was already gone by the time the Soviet state was declared. Are you think of the Politburo?

WWII is pretty interesting to read about. Probably because several of my family members served in the US military during that time. My grandpa was in the Navy and was present at the Battle of Okinawa, where he lost the tip of one of his fingers (but gained a Japanese sword). A couple of his brothers also served. I know for a fact that one was in the Army on the European front because he came back with some of Hitler's silverware.

I've also recently become fascinated with the Victorian and Edwardian Eras.

The transfiguration.

Basically, Jesus takes two of his disciples to a mountainside to pray. Everything is going pretty normal until Jesus starts to morph, his face as bright as the sun, his clothing lit aflame. Two men appear!

These men were the prophets Moses and Elijah. After that, the face of God appears in the clouds. God says from the sky, "This is my son who I am pleased with, listen to him." I would give my left arm to actually see that you guys.

It looked something like this.

Norman Conquest. It's got it all... except the compelling television/movie adaptation. Which is weird when you think about it. Great action climax, fake climax via Stamford Bridge, complex characters who are open to interpretation. Seems ready made, right?

In terms of the thing that happened that I'm most pleased happened? No idea.

Victorian Britain, especially London, in the midst of the Industrial Revolution, particularly the Second Industrial Revolution in the mid-to-late 19th century, would have to be my favorite period, followed closely by America, especially NYC and Chicago, in the 1920s-1930s.

Countless movies, TV shows and video games are partly or wholly set in these places and time periods, or loosely inspired by them. When I think of Victorian London, I think of Charles Dickens, Shanghai Knights, Peter Pan (in the "real" world), The Nutcracker and the Four Realms (in the "real" world), The Chronicles of Narnia (in the "real" world), Assassin's Creed: Syndicate and Sherlock Holmes, and more loosely Harry Potter, and others I may have missed. Interwar NYC conjures up images of King Kong (the remake) and the mafia, while Chicago is centered around Al Capone. Doctor Who (2005 series) episodes have been set in interwar NYC and Victorian London, or clones thereof.

A snowy Christmas theme enhances my appreciation tenfold, especially in the case of Victorian Britain. Dickens' A Christmas Carol, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms and at least one Doctor Who Christmas special are partly or wholly set in Victorian London around Christmas time.

The development of self loading firearms (1880-late 1940s). The way politics and the technology of the time both hindered and sped up development is super interesting, and there are some crazy actions that were made up to bypass patents.

There was a bar here that ran an offer where by every time Brazil scored in that match they'd reduce the price of Brahma, and every time Germany scored they'd reduce the price of Erdinger Heffe.

The Erdinger was going for 50c a pop by the end.

What an interesting choice! It wasn't that long ago, too. There's nothing like some drama that ends in death to kickstart a fine genre of quality, extreme music.

I find it difficult to choose a particular event, myself; anything related to ancient Iranian civilizations or Mesoamerican ones is welcome. And the discovery of metallurgy - that's some mad shit right there. The High Medieval period of Europe isn't too shabby of an era either.
