My favorite “era”, rather than event, really, is probably the colonization period of the United States — from when they settled, to a little after they created their government and gained freedom from the Old World. I also find the Roman Empire to be fascinating! Hope to see some responses!

I can bet you with certainty if you were to do a topic such as WW2 or WW1 then the best way I can think of (For HSers) is to open up with interesting and frankly funny facts. Such as the Christmas event that happened in WW1. The reason I suggest this is most students have a general Idea about what happened in WW1 or WW2 so presenting them with facts they'd never even think happened.
