I go back in time and trip Lenin and/or spill coffee or food coloring on all of his clothing, causing him to miss the ride that takes him to Russia, and the revolution never happens. Go Me.

Any future would seem like a horrible future. Even if you don't change anything, there's a lot about the world now that would make it seem better change something.

It's going to turn out that the super duper nice future with unicorns and happiness only would happen if Elvis didn't eat so many damn sandwiches. He had a comeback tour in 82 that ended the cold war, freed Nelson Mandela, stopped war and poverty, and created peace in the middle east.

*ahem*
Eh...not quite sure. Go back in time, you risk killing everyone with disease, go forward in time...eh, that has complications of it's own.

I know one or two things I would go back and do, give my younger self some advice, namely, but I'm not sure what impact that would have, and even then there's risks of creating an infinite paradox.

But, let's assume that the issues with paradoxes are ironed out.

I'd go back to me in...eh, 5th-ish grade, and give my younger self some advice regarding his crush and future girlfriend, although how this would affect the present I am unaware. But honestly, this is the only real thing I'd do. Spare me and her the heart break.

Let Hitler be accepted into the art academy, without giving any thoughts on the Butterfly Effect that will happen later.

On a less joke sense, I would travel into the future to see how it looks like. I'm hoping to see Star Trek stuff and the bright and cool future like how I envision Valentine Z.... And hopefully not a barren wasteland that has Mad Max rules.

And yeah, go back in time to seriously convince my younger self to be not that shy and hey, talk to that girl that talked to you in class! Gawd, you don't even know the name of a potential close friend anymore!

That train ride was a negotiated deal with the German government. They would have held the train while Lenin changed his trousers.

the time paradox thing, just stay far enough away from whatever period you want to call home. as pointed out the details, as long as you don't kill your grandfather or something stupid like that, if you stay more then four or five centuries away, nothing closer then that, the odds are really good, nothing one person does, is going to mean diddly. big things in history; you really think anyone is going to listen to some looney who claims to have travelled in time?

also looking forward is mostly harmless, as long as you're not tempted to bring anything back.

of course if i could distribute effective non-lethal arms from the future, to would have been victims of genocide in the past,
as long as it was far enough in the past, yah i'd consider doing so. and then the high court of galifray would sentence me to mopping the floors in the panopticon.

You can use this time machine as often as you would like to. The machine allows you to change the past if you want to, and it also allows you to simply observe it. However, you can not bring things to the present from another time period. The machine doesn't change you while you are travelling.

What would you use the time machine for? Would you try to change the past? Would it be moral to use the machine to change someone else's past?

If I had this time machine, I would first use it to travel to the Roman Republic to be able to see it. After that, I might use it to try to change my past ideas or some of my actions when I was younger if I could.

I think you'll find the Republic dirty and smelly and unsanitary, but you should take video recording equipment to get a record of notable events.

I myself would go back and see opening nights of famous plays and musicals.

Going back and seeing the opening nights of famous musicals would be a good use of a time machine.

I'd like to drop in on the 1920s, see if the social whirl lives up to its historical reputation. Definitely buy a couple of dresses from the period while I'm there. Maybe some shoes. Just to have them.

Aren't there supposed to be rules in time travel against coming across your young self, in case it removes your current self from the timeline.

A large part of ourselves -- after all -- is comprised of our accumulated experiences.

I'd be staying well away from my younger self, to be on the safe side.

I don't care! I gonna be fine-

*Warning: Imminent Paradox detected*

Oh crap.

-----

Jokes aside, yeah, I think I'll just drop hints or something. Maybe write it as another person and keep slipping notes to your younger self. Though... I can see how that will backfire, because well, you are you because of your past actions.

For small/big changes, that's actually the beauty of chaos theory, or the Butterfly Effect. From my limited understanding, big events can happen from small ones, yes, but there may also be moments when something big was supposed to happen, but it just sizzled into a footnote. An example would be forgotten wars that are supposed to be something extremely impactful, but... There was nothing much out of it.

Like, there are battles or events that are supposed to be eventful or huge, but at the end of the day, our collective thoughts just forgot about it, as if they never happened.

At least, I hope I'm saying this correctly.
