I always wanted to be able to slow time, e.g. to make that last four minutes before the alarm goes off last an hour for me. However, this is a much more elegant solution to the problem and avoids inconveniencing others...although I would also have to deal with where I am going to sleep.

If your past self from eight hours ago already knows that your future self is going to sleep again, you could work something out with yourself.

Yeah, but then if I snore then I'm not going to be able to sleep and that gets us back to the original problem. Of course, I could just get drunk and pass out but then I'd wake up hungover and want to sleep it off, again bringing us back to the original problem. By the time this is all said and done I might end up killing myself in one iteration or another whether intentionally or by misadventure.

Maybe the solution is to go back in time and use my knowledge of the future to invest in the stock market, make a ton of money, and buy another property that I can furnish with a separate bedroom so that I can finally get that eight goddamn hours of additional sleep.

WW1 was caused by a chain reaction of alliances that had been established well before the assassination of Franz Ferdinand with the assassination just being the spark that ignited the powder keg Europe was. At best saving Ferdinand would mean the war would be delayed.
