Turkish military offensive in Syria/Rojava

Postby Nakena » Wed Oct 09, 2019 9:21 am

NakNews presents you a thread to the hottest topic of the last days the inbound ongoing turkish intervention in northern Syria which is directed against the YPG held terretories also known as Rojava.

This military operation is being conducted by the Turkish Armed Forces and the "Syrian National Army" (SNA) against the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (NES).

Orbat: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_ ... _offensive

Update October 9: stuff just got real:
Ankara informed Damascus of offensive, Turkish FM says

Turkey sent a diplomatic note to Syria's consulate in Istanbul to inform Damascus about its cross-border operation into northeast Syria, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said shortly after Ankara launched the offensive.

Speaking to reporters in Algeria, Cavusoglu said Turkey's operation was based on its rights related to international law and added that Ankara had informed all the necessary actors, including the United Nations and NATO.

Update October 18: Temporary cease fire declared

Since this has been discussed at lenght in the MAGA Thread before, its high time for this getting its own exclusive special dedicated thread. The topic is the turkish invasion of the YPG held terretories in northern Syria also known as Rojava. You know what to do.

Obligatory OP-opinion: I am a bit torn on the issue as I am still getting updated but I personally don't really trust the claims of either side regarding this matter. Uh oh.

To be expanded and updated as this is an ongoing event.

UPDATE 2: Poll added and reformatted

It’s practically a guarantee. Turkey’s been waiting to take out the Kurdish thorn in its side for too long. Shame that it’s gotta go down like this.

I love how EU just said "Omg, please, we are so worry about a possible war, oh PLEASE,don't go to war, PLEASE. WE CAN TALK"

The only good talk could be a peacekeeping force there. Kurds have died for protecting our lands and our people from jihadist and this is how we repay them? With "strong words"?

Almost like it’s just lip service, and now that the Kurds have been used to their potential, people don’t care about them.

I guarantee dictator Erdogan will never give the oil fields and natural gas back to Syria once he takes it.

And that puzzles me. Assad is a dictator like Erdogan, how can he possibly allow another State to cross your borders and violate your sovereignty so batlanty? Jeez, Turkey is literally invading you, US doesn't care and you don't raise a single word against it?

This will probably be quite bad.

Notable that the US (yet again) leaves allies to be killed.

Supposedly Erdogan just wants to conquer a "strip" in northern Syria as buffer zone but chances are he will go for all the cake and grab the wholesome of it down to the Euphrates.

Assad is probably too weak right now to stand against Turkey seeing as he barely won the Syrian civil war, and that with lots of help from Russia.

Turkey has full rights to do this, as Rojava continues its persecution of Arabs. I’m hoping Assad comes out on top at the end of all this, he’s definitely least of all the evils in this conflict

The territory in question is already far outside Syrian government control.

This map is from march, but the front lines haven't move significantly since then. The attacks now are happening in the north-eastern part of the map.

Here's a live-updated map of the situation.

Sure, the Rojava government has a bad track record in regards to killing of opponents, many of whom are Arab, but to take that and suddenly leap to the conclusion that "Assad is the most moral here" is asinine. Turkey is descending into an authoritarian hellscape, sure, and the Rojava government may not be the trendsetter of human rights that many would like to believe, granted, but Assad is a megalomaniacal tyrant who frequently slaughters his own people.
