I agree with treating obesity as a national security issue. That way we can deal with the issue like the State Department currently does. Every fat person that fails to maintain an average of 10 000 steps per day for a week can expect a Hellfire missile from a Predator drone.

Alot of work nowadays is also very...sedentary.
After switching from food service to a call center I gained like 50 pounds....I have a pudge.

It happens to the best of us old boy. The old problem used to be ironically the dreaded one pound per year weight gain. Which at the end of life would be disaster tier. Now it seems we are snapping into a two tier health system weight Wise. Being fit is a function of wealth, as is the traditional two parent household and a slew of other things. It is strange.

I did too, but then I got put on a medication by my psychiatrist that apparently (and I only just learned that it does this), kills off a lot of the intestinal bacteria and causes significant weight gain. Fortunately, now that I'm off that medication, I'm losing weight rapidly with a new psychiatrist who told me about that side effect.

Sorry to hear that, but I'm not talking about people with health disorders that keeps them from losing weight I'm talking about people in general who are able to lose weight but won't because they're too fucking lazy.

Then that's separate from what I'm talking about, though I do strongly support making extended PE classes mandatory in schools as well as expanding ROTC programs.

We need to take a hard look at what young people are eating and how their getting their exercise, because that influences their behavior later in life.

Never thought I'd agree with Mark Hertling but yeah we're in agreement here. Especially the PE and ROTC part.

Jobs that pay you enough to be able to afford to eat healthy are largely extremely sedentary (think white collar office jobs) and take up much of your day, and sometimes require you to bring work home with you, leaving you little to no time to prepare a full meal (which depending on what you're making can take anywhere from 15 minutes to a couple hours) and get to bed in time to be able to get up for the next day. Meanwhile most jobs that are more physically active and you don't have to worry about once you clock out don't pay much money. Everyone wants everything quick, and those who are making less money are looking for something cheap yet filling. Put those together and it's not a huge shock that people stuffing their faces with terrible processed crap all the time.

The availability of guns in the United States does contribute massively to gun violence though. It really is. Demolition Man easily has one of the most nefarious dystopias. You aren't drugged up into oblivion like in Brave New World, you aren't dodging the neo-Stasi like in 1984, you aren't living in crime ridden hell hole like Judge Dredd - you just live in an incredibly boring society.
