Avoiding the Cold War, or at least stabilizing Europe is not "no good reason".

It's just as likely that a bunch of Capitalist countries immediately going in and attacking a country that had just managed to avoid literal genocide and that served as a misguiding ideal of revolution for people across the world would've led to a far worse outcome than whatever the Cold War brought along. Never mind the fact that Operation Unthinkable alone would've gotten millions of people - who had just survived a World War and were tired of fighting, mind you - needlessly killed in a conflict that they themselves didn't want.

The main goal of Shingon is initiation into the deeper teachings of Buddhism and the use of mantras and mudras to realize the sameness of self and Buddha, while Nichiren's is reverence for the Lotus Sutra which is believed to be the supreme and final Buddhist text through chanting Namu Myōhō Renge Kyō (Homage to the Glorious Lotus Law).
